Fort Worth is absolutely the prime COWTOWN. There used to a sign on the west side of Dallas that read “Dallas for culture, Fort Worth for fun.” An allusion to all the other live attractions that roamed the streets of the downtown area. Or so I have been informed, I wouldn’t know about those things myself.
I believe that Fort Worth used to be able to call itself the only county seat with a huge neon American Flag on the roof–I think they didn’t want to spend the money updating it when we went to 49 states.
In addition to some absolutely great steak houses, Fort Worth used to be, and maybe still is, an incredible fun place to visit.
As for cows and steaks, Kansas City is not in the same league with Fort Worth.
You totally confused me for a minute… like Pipeliner said CowTown up here in Canada is Calgary… and I lived there for a bit so you got me all curious for nothing!
Sheesh! I leave for lunch, and look what you’ve all done!
Ok, first question…audio or video?..the answer is: BOTH!
Now, COWlumbus, Ohio has always been known as CowTown to us folks. I’d venture to guess the cattle population in the metro area (and surrounding suburbs) exceeds the human population.
I’m not saying there aren’t other towns that like to call themselves Cow-Town…but that’s not the point here.
The point is, my band, JerkWaterJive will be performing at Little Brother’s in COWlumbus, Ohio on Thursday November 2nd @ 9pm, and the folks at Digital Club Network have been kind enough to webcast the show audio & video live around the world.
This is a great exposure opportunity for us, especially to gain a fan-base OUTSIDE of the aforementioned “CowTown”…so we can tour around the USA with some success.
For those of you unfamiliar with the music of JerkWaterJive (namely obfusciatrist), please proceed to http://mp3.com/jerkwaterjive for 5 FREE samples of their tasteful blend of Jamaican ska sensibility and snarling punk-rock.
Thank you for your support.
The ultimate authority: TV.
Flo the waitress on “Alice” hails from Cowtown, Texas. The spin-off, “Flo,” takes place in Cowtown, Texas. Nobody from Kansas would say “kiss my grits.” 'Nuff said.
You’ve never been to Kansas.
From Connor’s Wall Street Journal site on Fort Worth:
I have lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area all my 36 years, and never once have I heard Fort Worth referred to by any of these nicknames. Leave it to some sissified east coast reporter to come up with this load of bull (pun intended).
Fort Worth’s nickname has always been “Cowtown” and it’s unofficial motto “Where the West Begins”.
I’ll give Connor that one…
I’ve been to Kansas many many times, and I can picture that coming from a few Kansans.
I was engaged to a girl that lived in Olathe. I flew up every weekend for over a year and almost moved there, we broke up so that fell through. Its a great place in and of itself.
I love my Texas women but those midwestern girls aint bad at all!

I thought the west began in Westport, MO… At least that’s what everyone on the Sante Fe and Oregon Trail said.
That’s because they hadn’t made it to Fort Worth yet. The history books usually leave out the part where the wagon train arrives in Fort Worth* and the trail driver smacks himself in the head and says, “Boy, did I wrong on that one!”
*Included for humor purposes. In no way am I making any claim that either the Santa Fe or Oregon Trails ever went through Fort Worth. Chisholm Trail, yes. Santa Fe and Oregon, no.
That should be “Boy, was I wrong on that one!”
Proofreading is my friend.
Here in California we’ve a town called “Vacaville” . . .
Hmm… This thread took exactly five minutes to be hijacked to Cuba… Is anyone gonna listen to the kid’s band?
