I was listening to the song “Me Plus One” by Annie, a Norwegian singer. It’s a really catchy song, but the only problem is that I have absolutely no idea what the title and that lyric mean in relation to the rest of the song.

Now, the meaning of the rest of the song is not exactly hard to decipher, but is that phrase some sort of idiom (possibly a Norwegian idiom that doesn’t carry over well into English?), or does it just not make any sense at all?

“Plus one” is a distinction that can be added when you are put on a list to get in free at the door, or backstage, at some kind of show — it would be like “Your Name + 1”, i.e., whoever your date is.
