Explain to me the current Spider-man brouhaha

I used to buy everything with even a Spider-Man cameo, including NFL Superpro #1. I stopped buying comics more or less completely just before the Clone Saga. I was just so sick of Venom-spawn, I didn’t even make it to the really infuriating storyline. Unfortunately, this means that I can’t stop buying the comic in anger over this current horseshit.

Somebody help me out here, because I’ve never heard of Marvel screwing with their own continuity like this. This is the kind of crap DC is famous for. When was the last time Marvel tried to take back a storyline that fans have followed for decades?

Serious comic book fans are like battered wives who keep going back. :stuck_out_tongue:

The really stupid thing about this is that there are already two versions of Spidey being published right now where Peter Parker is not married: Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel Tales Spider-Man. BTW, not only did they give up their marriage, but they also gave up the child Mephisto revealed they would have had.

I’d say the clone crap, when it turned out that Spider-Man wasn’t really Spider-Man, and everything since about ASM 149 never mattered.

Thank god that’s over, and now we have an ongoing story line… Nevermind.

Three. Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.

So where does Spiderpig fit into all this?

Well he does whatever a Spiderpig does.

Ah, but Quesada has said in interviews that a divorced or widowed Spidey is even worse than a married one.

Why don’t they just have some villain throw Mary Jane off a bridge and be done with it?

Wow, it’s been ages since I had subscriptions to ASM/PPtSSM/WoSM (don’t know what they’re called now), but I always had a soft spot for the guy and this all sounds a bit ridiculous (though I’m also unfamiliar with the clone thing and the civil war hoozit so I don’t have much of a frame of reference). And Aunt May’s still alive?   Yeesh.

You mean Spider-Ham?

And what about the "Mazing Man-Spider? Virtual No-Prize to the first person who gets that reference. ;D

And what about the 'Mazing Man-Spider? Virtual No-Prize to the first person who gets that reference.

I too was disappointed in The Simpsons Movie when the Spider-Pig joke never turned out to be a reference to Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham.

Wait. Aunt May is alive again? The issue featuring her death was one of the greatest Spider-Man Issue of all time, and they reconned it?

No wonder I don’t read comics any more.

Currently, there’s only one (main continuity) Spider-Man title, Amazing Spider-Man, which comes out three times a month.

I wonder what a year’s subscription to that costs?

One wonders about his judgement since character change and growth is less appealing than a big magic reset button.

Not for long.

Isn’t this the second or third time Quesada has shafted Spiderman? What is this guy smokin’, anyway? And why do the Marvel chiefs keep him? I know they’re none too bright, but you’d think they’d get the obvious.
