I got mine from Kel Varnsen - Latex Division in this hilarious thread (post 13).
Things are going great over here, boss.
I stole my name from the song ‘2033’ by ‘La Bottine Souriante’, from the album 'Y a ben du changement. In the song, it means the (Gov’t) Minister from Beyond. It appealed to my sense of the surreal…
I fart blood a lot
Booyah!
Good to hear - obviously my opposite in charge of America is doing their part well.
And Brujaja - there’s a poster on another site I use who is called Bruja. It’s not you by any chance is it?
Mine is fairly self explanatory but the story behind it is slightly interesting. I signed up for Xbox Live with this name a few months before joining the boards here. Needless to say, it didn’t go over so well with the kiddies on Xbox Live. I had a few people asking me what it meant and if it was Latin. Then there were the people that thought it said ‘Pity Monkey’. I paid to have it changed.
As expected, it’s been much more well received here on the Dope.
Back in high school, a friend of mine was looking for a live band to play at Prom. Feppytweed was the name of one of them. I liked the sound of it, so…here it is!
Damn, I love that thread. I think another good name from that thread would have been “the child still suffers”.
Happy birthday Ralph!
I love you.
Even though you are fucking disgusting!
(I think those are the same guys at least.)
I am named Rick, but so are lots of other people.
I was reading H. P. Lovecraft’s work at the time and I wanted a name that was nicely inconspicuous*, on the theory that people would judge me by my words instead of my handle. So I picked the name from August Derleth, Lovecraft’s main collaborator. I didn’t know there would be so many Lovecraft fans here and I certainly didn’t know people would think Derleth is a feminine name. (I’m a man, by the way.)
*(Yes, I’m also a “Hitchhiker” fan.)
Mine is the of my “real” first name, Joseph, in Irish.
My college mascot was the Orediggers my number on the football team was 77. yep creative jock type over here. By the way if you look up the team there is a poster from our confrence championship in '04 that has a great shot of my butt in spandex.
I discovered, to my chagrin, that if you are a small, underweight female sooner or later one of those drunken hammerheads you’re hanging with at the bar will get to thinking; “She’s not very big, betcha I could lift her over my head, yeah, it’ll be fun, watch!”
Turns out, if you’re tiny, lots of people thinks it’s okay to put their hands on you, (a couple of drinks brings it out in lots of people!), they think it will be fun, like you’re a child or something.
So I learned the one weapon the God’s had given me to defend myself from such advances was exceedingly pointy and sharp elbows. I became very adept at fending off would be ‘handlers’, even though they be my friends. I became some what renowned for this, often hearing; “Watch the elbows, watch the elbows!”
When I went on line I wanted something unrelated to my actual name and non gender specific. Now, I like it very much and think if very appropriate!
I had lurked for a while prior to joining this board, and decided to come up with a handle to reflect the “fight ignorance” philosophy here, as well as my redneck heritage.
I knew a dude who would always say “No doubt!” when somebody would testify. So this name is a pun on that, and suggests that I’ve reached the limit of my thinking, which happens a lot.
Andy Strelzer, is that you???!!
(I don’t really know you)
Anyway, mine is the name of a band I was in from about 2001-2004.
It means “lawyer” in Czech (also Russian and Croatian, I think, and maybe a few other Slavic languages). “Prav” is the root word for truth, like old Commie newspaper Pravda, and the suffix -nik is a little like the English -er, so a literal translation would be something like “truther.”
This is one of the 3,000+ books that, added to my job as an accountant, and my word-lover’s attraction to a word with 3 consecutive double letters, resulted in my user name.
