Explain your user name please!

I love the song “Wonderwall” by Oasis, and I always loved Marilyn Monroe, and I thought 6/1/29 was her birthday but it’s actually 6/1/26. Oops.

You can have that fixed, if you want. Just e-mail TubaDiva and send her a goat and a chocolate squid pie. She’ll take care of you.

Well netsplits are a major annoyance on irc so it was a good fit.

My name is Katheryn, I like cats, I think I’m pretty great (haha, I don’t, it’s ironic), it all just came together! I started calling myself The Great Kat in high school, partly/mostly inspired by a kid’s book called “Otherwise Known as Shiela the Great” (sounds so lame now), but Katheryn (or rather Catherine) the Great was already taken. Later I found out there was a heavy metal guitarist called The Great Kat, but I think she’s obscure enough I don’t worry about most people getting us confused. I shortened it to Gr8Kat back in the old days of the web when most handles/email identities seemed to top out between 5 and 8 characters or so.

My favourite wrestler then some numbers

Clothahump is the aged Turtle Wizard from Alan Dean Foster’s Spellsinger novel series.

Now that I’m older, I take medication daily. I’ve combined that with the number 12 which is my favorite number. 12 has seemed a prominent number throughout my life. My address, number of letters in my city and state, birth-date of significant other, number of letters in my name, my name starting with the 12th letter in the alphabet, etc, etc.

You might want to grab a bag of Cheetos and a two-liter Coke:

Burpo, the Wonder Mutt was the nick-name I gave my first dog (picked out by my wife); a relentless eating machine and a notorious eructationer (-ist?). Ever seen a dog when it’s proud of itself? This booger would eat her meal (at light-speed), then search me out–wherever I was in the house–and BURRRRRP! in my face. Then saunter off for a nap, totally pleased with herself.

The name came from: a) Superboy’s “Krypto, the Wonder Dog,” filtered through, b) Johnny Carson’s “Tea Time Movie” skits, where the cast listing always ended with something like “Squirt, the Wonder Skunk.” It’s all in lower case because when I signed up, I didn’t know caps were allowed in a name, and the same thing with the comma (SDMB is the first, and only, message board I’ve joined [I came to the Internet–kicking and screaming–rather late in the game]).

I wrote a song for the real Burpo (gone four years, now); the music needs work but the lyrics, to me, are first-rate. Here’s the last four lines:

There are many other noises that would tend to offend
More than sounds from a collie’s gut.
Yes, with luck I won’t be hearing from the opposite end
Of Burpo, the Wonder Mutt. Woof!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program of dance music.

Even more aged now than the first time you posted this in this thread!

Bug Vomit was already taken.

My story is not very interesting. I used to use my real name as my username. I decided to change it. I happened to be reading a collection of Little Nemo in Slumberland comic strips at the time.

My username comes from numerology from Kabalarians.com and the type of personality I initially wanted to have:

https://www.kabalarians.com/male/John.htm

https://www.kabalarians.com/male/Clay.htm

I used to think it was quite accurate for the names I tried. It was quite accurate about my actual name:

Though since I came across that numerology site I’ve been put in the mental hospital a few times. i.e. my personality has changed a bit.

Actually my username isn’t John or Clay it is JohnClay:
https://www.kabalarians.com/Male/JohnClay.htm

Well I think some of it fits…

“Lumpy” is actually short for Lumpenprole, my handle from all the way back to my BBS days in the 1990s. From the Marxist term “lumpenproletariat”, which my dictionary article defined as “marginal and unemployable workers of debased and irregular habits, including paupers, beggars and thieves”.

I wanted Tripler to think I stole it.

TriPolar
I’m not Tripler

I’m named for a fictional 12th century monk, who suffers from Jessica Fletcher’s disease. Whenever he’s around, people conveniently drop dead at his feet, so that he can investigate their murder. And, if you are a friend or relative, be prepared to be the main suspect until he clears you.

Hm. This is an old thread! Posts by the late** norinew** :frowning: , Asimovian not yet married to jsgoddess, all sorts of history…

Anyway, my name’s Maggie, and the rest is me playing around with words.

My real name is Paula. 40 years ago my learning-to-talk nephew pronounced it Peedin and Peedin is my family nickname. Back in the olden days it was not cool to use your real name on BBS, so Peedin it was. And is.

I had the same reaction to seeing norinew’s post in here. Bah.

On the plus side, I always forget how to pronounce koeeoaddi, so the zombification has been useful to me for that alone.

This post makes some zombie threads extremely funny.

My name:

Edward = Iron Maiden’s un-dead mascot

Beard = Usually associated with a closeted gay person who had a person of the opposite sex appear with them in public. However, it wasn’t til I heard the term on the X-Files where I believe Skinner was telling Mulder that someone was an alien’s beard that I grabbed it.

So my name is a beard for the un-dead.

Circa 2004, I was using in most places (not here) the username Nekogami - catgod - because I like cats and am interested in Japanese culture. But…there’s, like, 6 billion Nekogami out there, so I eventually hit somewhere where someone else beat me to it…

So, I changed it around to Kamino Neko, which a) was less common (not quite unique, but uncommon), and b) is a real name.

The Japanese spelling/intended meaning of the name has changed, over the years.

Originally it was 神の猫 (Kami no Neko - roughly God’s Cat), but I’ve since drifted to 神野 (one of the real names that can be read as Kamino, roughly meaning ‘god field’).

I recently discovered there was an artist named 神野猫, but she pronounces it as Jinno, so there’s no chance of us being confused in roman letters, anyway. >_>

Well, since this zombie has jumped back to life…

I usually use the same name on a variety of boards (the first syllable of my last name), but for some reason I decided to make it something different here. I read a fair amount of SF, and Harry Harrison’s tales of the galaxy’s premier thief just came to mind.
