Extreme Makeover? - What about the MOLES??

I happened to catch the end of a couple of Extreme Makeover shows in the last week or so, and noticed that after all of the extensive plastic surgery they did on these people, they left the moles on their faces and necks.

Why, pray tell me why, after going through all the rest of it, wouldn’t they go the teensy extra step and have those moles taken off?

IMHO if you’re going for perfection or major improvement, why on earth wouldn’t you want unblemished skin, especially on the face and neck, if not all over?

That is a great question, I never actually thought about that, but one would wonder, maybe it as a choice by the one being made over, hmmmmm…interesting question though

I have several moles (a small one on my lip line and two on my neck are the ones in my facial region). I kind of like them. They’re not oversized or ugly, and the one on my neck is kind of like a beauty mark.

I think I wouldn’t recognize myself if my moles were gone. I might miss them.

I do wish I could get the one on my lip removed, as it has gotten bigger in the last few years, but I can’t afford cosmetic surgery.

Heh, I have three moles on my face. Ones between my nose and mouth, anothers high on my cheekbone, and the thirds on my temple. Personally, if I went and paid for cosmetic surgery, or was on Extreme Makeovers, Id leave them. The one on my cheek is cute, and I couldn’t imagine myself without all of them.

Actually, I could probably take off the one on my lip, but I had one removed on my back and another on my hip, and they left nice circular scars. I really wouldn’t like to have that on my face, cause they are rather large and ugly :frowning:

If they are removed, the scare left is usually more noticeable than the mole its self.

Plus it is more fun to hack them off yourself. In fact, last night, I got out the ol’ nail clippers and took one off that was being irritated by my shirt collar. For some reason, this one did not bleed like they usually do. gush gush gush. Just a dab of salve and a band aid took care of it.

MrTuffPaws, are you cutting off moles or skin tags? I do my own skin tags.

I have three circular moles the size of pencil erasers on my face. All three are near my temples. I am sure they’d leave scars, so I keep 'em, even though I had moles on my back and top of my head removed.

First of all, face lift scars are easily hid in hairlines, behind the ears, in the browline, under the chin, and in other spots where they are relatively unnoticable. Moles, on the other hand, can occur in expanses of skin that have no such hiding place. Removal would leave a noticable scar, at least as noticiable, if not more so, than the mole itself.

Also, moles are not seen as blemishes in the same league as scars, acne, or the like.

If the mole is undergoing changes you should get it checked by a dermatologist. Moles that are doing funny things (like changing) can be removed without catagorizing it as “cosmetic surgery” - even if done by a plastic surgeon. It called “medically necessary”, because changing moles can possibly be a bad sign.

So check with a doc for two reasons - one, it really could be important to your health, and two, if/when they do the biopsy they’ll likely remove the whole thing.

I have five moles on my face, and several others on various parts of my body. I would not consider getting any of them removed unless there was a health issue.

I have been told that the moles on my face accent my beauty. Wether I am beautiful or not, I accept the compliment.

I have five moles on my face, and several others on various parts of my body. There is only one that I would and have considered removing. Other than that, I would not consider getting any of them removed unless there was a health issue. I also have a full body mole check done every year, to make sure that none of them have become suspicious.

I have been told that the moles on my face accent my beauty.

I have one on either side of my upper lip. One is flat and the other raised. The raised one is the one that bugs me, and that is due to an upper-lip waxing incident (ow, ow, ow,). I have one on my lower right cheekbone, and a light one on my upper left cheekbone. They are both flat. The last one is on my right temple.

Wether I am beautiful or not…shrug.

I accept(ed) the compliment. I used to think that the moles made me ugly. Hell, I used to really trully believe that I was ugly. I don’t anymore.

Q.N. Jones:

Skin tags?

Never mind

I guess you learn something new everyday, and yes, I have been to cut them off.

I have been to cut them off? Long day at the office, but you all know what I mean.
