Eye of the Tiger . . . the bagpipe version

I recall reading something recently about a bagpipe cover of Eye of the Tiger, but I can’t remember who the band was. Anyone heard of this? And, more to the point, can tell me who did it?

Whoever did it should be flogged!

I’ve never heard of such a savage, barbaric act!

Only the Undeground Arctic Nazi Consortium could conceive of such a vile plan!

I need a copy.

The only bagpiper I could name would be Philly’s own Rufus Harley, but checking his All Music Guide review to his most recent album, the only one post-1970 they list, I’m not sure it’s the one. Given that they mention mis-identified songs, though, you may need to check it out. Better you than me.

(I’ve actually seen him perform. It was … interesting. His stuff works better on original material than it does on standards – Stormy Weather is truly horrifying on bagpipes.)

I’ve downloaded a tuba cover of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven. Weird Al Yankovic can make darn near anything sound good done to a polka beat on the accordion. Now that’s skill.

Check with the U.S. government. That sounds like something they might be using to torture prisoners in Iraq.

Don’t know, but I’ve put out an inquiry. Couldn’t find it on a couple of piping sites I go to.

MP3! MP3! MP3!

I HAVE to have it. I need to inflict–uh, play it for the coffeewife.

This may well be the first time a thread title has actually made me go cold with dread.

Congratulations.

Yessssssssss.

I want it! I like bagpiping anyway, which drives Dad nutso, but this… ::dissolves into insane cackling::

I guess it was all a bad dream.

<woo!>

It was all just a dream

Why is the music from the Twilight Zone playing in the background…?

Presumably played on the bagpipes, yes?

I’ve still been digging into this, and I did come up with a cool version by Rockapella. I also got in touch with the editorial board of the Coast in Halifax, where I visited last week on business, on the off chance that I had read about it there . . . but to no avail.

Meanwhile, I’ve recently come across Arab Strap and Broken Social Scene, not that they have anything to do with this, but goddam they’re doing some cool stuff!

I hereby pledge to bump this thread once a month for time eternal until this unholy power is uncoverd.
I, too, must bask in it’s glow.

Yee gods, the horror…

NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
That was scary…

I’ve heard both Stairway and Angel is a Centerfold on bagpipes.

Well, now, you can just rock me to sleep tonight!

I too must MUST hear this.

I’d also like to hear covers of other songs on the theremin. Jewel’s Hands would be particularly apropriate.

good grief that must be appalling

let’s hear it then!

It can’t be that hard to get a hold of this song.

Grab some of the scottish dopers , throw a sheet of music in front of em ,and tell to go forth an make music. Its going to be all instrumental anyways.

Declan

Yes, but finding enough Scottish Dopers who can play the bagpipes and are willing to do this, is going to be the tricky part! (I want a copy too, damnit!)
