F*ckin' FRIENDS

What is this, season 10? You went to the Ross & Rachel well, what, at least 4 or 5 times before. This season it looked like you were going to finally let them be friends. You weren’t going to revolve the plot around sexual tension so much, or they’re-a-couple-no-they’re-not-yes-they-are-we-were-on-a-break-hey-it’s-sweeps-week-we’re-back-together bullshit. They seemed to be finally acting like two adults who happen to have a child together.

Then you just HAD to have Rachel & Dermot Mulroney kiss and HAD to have Ross come loping in to see it.

ROSS, you pinhead!! You had several chances, but you’re too much of a waffle to do anything with them. Let the dream die and spare the rest of us from your snivelling whining!!

I really get the sense the series finale is going to contain the line “Well, if I can’t have you, then no one can (bang).”

Sorry, that was wrong, but it’s time to give up the Ross & Rachel ghost. The writers are better than that. They’ve had 9 years to play with it, and dicked around with the twist all that time. LEAVE IT ALONE!!! Develop Phoebe’s love life (she’s the most under appreciated of the six), ANYTHING! But please don’t go back to the R & R crutch.

I used to be the biggest Friends nut on the planet, but I’ve really lost interest in it. No, I shan’t use the phrase “jumped the shark”. But it did. I haven’t seen a single episode in the last two seasons.

On the other hand …

“I really get the sense the series finale is going to contain the line ‘Well, if I can’t have you, then no one can (bang).’”

… is pure genius and they ought to hire you as head writer pro-tem.

Hmmm. bizzare. Now, I’m English, so my appreciation of comedy may be different to yours (or am I just being ironic? And even if I was, would you get it?), but, man alive, I despise Friends nowadays. And I used to quite enjoy it.

In the UK, we’re on (I think), episode 3 of the new series, and it seems to me the same jokes as the past however many series we’ve had. And those jokes you can see coming a ile away. In fact, the set-up to the joke is so painfully obvious that when it comes, I’m not surprised if I’m laughing out of relief.

It seems tired, lazy, and laboured. And are they wheeling on guest stars to boost ratings? @cos there’s no comedy left in that six any more.

And as for developing Phoebe - please, no. They’ve tried, but she still strikes me as a vacuous, kooky-for-the-sake-of-being-kooky, unfunny, two-dimensional caricature.

By way of contrast, I happened upon “Scrubs” last night (first in the new series, I believe), and was very pleasantly surprised by it. Genuinely funny, clever, intelligent (well, about as intellligent as a self-proclaimed dumb comedy could get), and I enjoyed it very much. I’d much rather watch that than Friends.

Mind you, at the moment, I’d much rather watch grass grow than Friends.

Scrubs replaced Friends as my favorite sit-com last year.

Here’s hoping it will survive without the Friends lead in… someday.

The first half of the season was great. Good laughs, especially with Joey/Chandler themed episodes.

The last 3 episodes have blown chunks. My big issue is Rachel. i think the character development/direction for her character is just completely disturbing. Immediately post pregnancy she has returned to work early, essentially abandoning her baby and now she is hooking up with a co-worker while she lives with the father of her baby.

She is now a character that should be appearing on Jerry Springer every week. Unfortunately, all she is on the show now is a ridiculously poor mother.

Yeah, I’m sick and tired of the Ross/Rachel thing too. Let it go already. In fact, they should let the whole show go now. I’m really hoping this is the last season.

OTOH, the episode where Monica thinks Chandler gets turned on by watching sharks in a fedding frenzy was hilarious.

My wife is a freeking Friends Nut too. Here in Phoenix we get 2 re-runs back to back and 6 and 6:30 every day. The re-runs are funny, but believe me… I have friggin seen them already. THEN at 7 on Thursday, here is the new all-too-pretentious-can-you-believe-we-are-still-doing-this-damned-show season. Jeeeezus! And they are making serious bank on these episodes. I heard each is getting 1 million USD per episode… that is obscene. Aint no Friends O’ Mine, o killers of thursday nights… OTOH, Scrubs is really funny. I am very impressed with the pacing of the gags in that show. Sometimes they fire 'em off so quick one after another, I can hardly stop laughin…

I know let’s get the Scrubs resident students to botch Ross’ lobotomy… now that would be funny!

I’ve always despised it. I think I’ve watched about 3 episodes total in the 10 years it’s been on. And each time I thought “YUP! That’s why I don’t watch this”.

I just couldn’t ever get past the “shallow young people living the high life with no visible means of support” thing.

Ross… You used to have rage and scare people, I like you durning the time of Chandler’s drug inflated fucking head (YOU HEARD ME),

Rape your sister, sell your kids and end the damn show

ITS OVER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

:smack:
:wally

Fascinating :dubious:

much anger i sense in him

they’re all in thier mid-late 30’s, and still haven’t settled down, I know that some don’t, but when you have a kid I think you should start to think about priorities, rather than friends.

:dubious: WTF?
I like Friends, although I agree I am getting tired of the whole Ross/Rachel thing. They need to give it up already. He’s NEVER going to get her.EVER.

Ugh.
IDBB

And let’s not ignore how the writers have seriously dumbed down and flattened out the characters. Of course I’ll have to re-watch the earlier seasons to make sure I wasn’t imagining things, but back then I thought they were reasonably well-rounded characters (compared to the last few seasons, anyway).

I mean pretty much all the humor (and I use the term lightly) these days seems to come from the following:

Monica - crazy, psychotic girl (I mean, yeah, she was anal before, but she’s a demented banshee these days)

Chandler - Monica’s man-bitch

Phoebe - total vacuous ditz, new age “valley girl” sans accent (not a big change, but at least she was normal/“here” enough to make fun of the others). Also winner of the most annoying screech award (runner up: Monica)

Joey - too dumb to breathe (albeit with a heart of gold)

Ross - pathetic joke of a man/Rachel’s man-bitch

Now I know a lot of this was there before, but it’s a crutch of a framework for all the show’s “heard 'em all before” one liners hang off of (hopelessly mixed metaphors? Who, me?).

If you just throw in…

Rachel - Petty, vindictive, selfish bitch who’s only happy when her relationships are self-destructive and everyone else is miserable too (and for some reason this is meant to be funny)

You’ve pinpointed all my reasons for disliking “Friends.” I can’t believe that such a whitebread, shallow show has survived this long.

Add to that irresponsible, flighty and selfish once again for good measure. I can’t stand the bitch.

Man…I hate cysts…
