It showed a woman being a racist that realized she was wrong, kind of like a lot of us have in our lives and then we realize everyone is pretty much assholes… or was it superior? etc… ??

You are referring to an edited version. The speech actually is about her apologizing for harboring some bigotry when she started her job. But she grew. She found that blacks and whites shared the same problems . She had overcome her bigotry and learned an important lesson. It is a speech about overcoming prejudice. It is a talk about hope and growth.
The big noise was over the Brietbart edited version that cut out the life lesson and growth. It was dishonest. that is why everybody wonders where you have been. Sherrod is going to sue Brietbart for the lie he perpetrated.
You have to get out a little more. Even Fox has distanced themselves from the story.

I saw the CNN interview with the white farmer in question. He and his wife were grateful to Ms. Sherrod: they believe that they would have lost their farm without her help.
The fact that this guy managed to keep his farm from the early 1980s to today indicates that he has a decent skill set. But, man, the guy sure wasn’t articulate. It’s easy for me to imagine that some lawyers would advise the guy to just declare bankruptcy and liquidate his farm. To her credit, Sherrod figured out how to connect him to a lawyer who would try a different approach: she also had the verbal skills to introduce the farmer to the new lawyer and explain the situation.
Anyway, that’s where class and poverty come in: middle class kids who have a pronounced weakness in school often get extra help. Kids without pro-active parents don’t and have to deal with the consequences later.

You illustrate your point with an anecdote about resisting the temptation to take drugs when you were younger.
