So FA Cup final today, any one have any thoughts on who’s going to win. Most people seem to be picking Liverpool but I’m going for Arsenal, mainly for sentimental reasons (I used to work with large and amusing American Arsenal supporter).
Also what to people think about it being played in Cardiff. Fantastic though the stadium is I think it’s a bit strange having the final of an English tornament played in another country.
Liverpool. Not because I like them or want them to win (I don’t like either team, though I do admit to disliking Arsenal more), not because I think they’re a better team, but because this trophy would mean more to them than the consolation prize it would essentially be to Arsenal.
That said, I really don’t care who wins it, and I probably won’t even watch the game.
I just think they’re more “up for it” and, on balance, are in better form than Arsenal. It will be interesting to see who Houllier picks up front, though.
I’m no Arsenal fan but I’d say they were the better side and will play percentage soccer to win. I think they have the better technical players.
Liverpool still do not have that steady patient build-up play that served so well back in the 70’s.
They would knock the ball about until everything was just right and then make what was to all intent a set piece play that had been rehearsed over and again.
On an only slightly unrelated note, Leeds Utd - get your wallet out and sign up Frank Lampard, experience relative youth and skill all in one package, he’s just what we need.
I forgot all about, and stumbled across it with 20 minutes left in the match. It turned out that was just in time to see all three of the goals!!
Michael Owen. What a striker!
Why didn’t Wenger field Bergkamp sooner? Is he injured or something? When they brought him on with 5 minutes to play, there was little he could save.
Cardiff. What an excellent stadium. Yeah, I suppose it IS weird playing the cup final in another country. But I think a lot of Welshmen are laughing their bollocks off at those English now. Saw whatshisname last night on the Beeb, sort of a stand up type of show… I forget. Anyway, he put up his best Welsh accent, and said: “Quite a stadium we were able to build eh, what with all the sheepshagging we occupy ourselves with 24/7!”.
Bergkamp only returned from injury this week, I think, and Henry and Wiltord have been in good form in his absence.
A mate of mine (Arsenal fan, poor bugger) went to Cardiff, and reckons the stadium is better than anything in England – Highbury and Wembley included.
I thought the match was no classic. Arsenal were marginally the better team – how Henchoz managed two handballs in the penalty area I’ll never know. They didn’t take their chances though, and Liverpool are a much better counterattacking side than people give them credit for.
