Face reconstrucion surgery program last night

This was on either TLC or a Discovery channel. They presented three cases:

  1. A teenish gal in Australia whose face was “sunken in,” a congenital defect that her mother also had had. The surgery was to “pull her face forward.”

  2. A child named “Katie” in Arkansas, part of whose jaw had been shot off by a shotgun blast.

  3. A Greek baby with a large hemangioma on the side of his nose.

I have a question on #2. Did they go into the circumstances how this child ended up being on the receiving end of a shotgun blast? I missed part of it.

I saw this show a while back. I believe it was an accident, something involving her brother, perhaps? I’m not 100% positive, but I do remember it was accidental. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that particular show.

The Australian girl’s surgery freaked me out more than anything I’ve ever seen in my life. Just the way they ‘unhooked’ everything, and pulled it forward. I made my roomie watch it with me when it repeated, and he had nightmares for weeks.

I loved that show. My husband can’t watch any “procedural” medical shows. He’s way too queasy.

I saw one where they took off the baby’s whole face and reconstructed his bones, pushed his eyes closer together, all kinds of stuff. It was amazing.

My S.O. can’t watch those shows either, but I watch them with a horrified fascination.

The ones that get me most are the facial reconstruction surgeries where they basically cut the face loose from the skull and peel it down while they work on the skull beneath.

Ewwwww…

They said was that she was accidentally shot by her uncle. No reason was given as to why he had the gun out.

The OP says “A child named Katie in Arkansas”. When you’re in Arkansas, you don’t need a reason to have your gun out.

(Sorry, I guess it’s wrong to make light of the situation; just having a flashback to being anti-gun and growing up in the south.)
