I help a bunch of people and organizations with their Facebook groups and business pages. To make this easier, many of them have given me admin status. Unfortunately, I then appear on the list of page/group admins, and members start messaging or even harassing me.
In particular, one woman has been bugging me endlessly to take down a post that she says is inappropriate. She even got my phone number and started texting me. I’ve explained over and over that I only do tech support and graphics for that group and she needs to talk to an admin or moderator. She keeps saying, “but you are an admin.”
Is there any way to take my name off the admin list on these pages shy of creating a second identity (which violates terms of service)?
(Yes, I googled this, but all the answers are from years ago and they’ve changed the user interface on Facebook since then so the old solutions don’t work)
I would start by disabling private messages from people that you aren’t friends with. I think that would get rid of a the vast majority of the problem. If people finding your phone number and calling you, or otherwise bothering you, it may turn out to be easier to just set up a new fake facebook persona, used only for working on these pages.
I think elbows was saying they used your real/fb name to find your contact information elsewhere on the internet. If you changed it to Garret Robertson, they wouldn’t be able to do that.
Having said that, make sure your privacy settings are such that no one can see your phone number other than you.
