Facebook, what drugs are you on?

^^^ this. Hate it hate it hate it.

I’m strongly considering using this interface after Sept 1, assuming they don’t make it unavailable. I don’t like it either but I like it better than “New & Improved Facebook”.

If you’re using Facebook on a computer and don’t have FBPurity installed then you need to get crackin’ on that. It allows you to personalize almost every aspect of the FB experience and whenever they roll out some new atrocity if you can hold it off for a bit, FBPurity will fix whatever stupidity Zucky’s little elves have whomped up. And if they don’t get it fixed on their own, there’s a very dynamic FB page for the app where thousands of users trade tips and tricks.

I’ll look at it. I’ve been using SocialFixer for years but it’s just the one guy and he has a day job and a family.

The irony of it is that this is what they’ve been doing - if you access Facebook from a mobile device, you get the m.facebook.com site instead of the regular facebook.com site. They’re actively removing functionality by forcing desktop users onto the mobile site.

Just skippy for you.

Facebook has its uses as well as its liabilities.

If it’s not for you don’t use it.

I just want a button to display all comments, instead of “10 more, 10 more, etc”.

So if I haven’t seen New Facebook yet, does that mean they’re just biding their time over there until my back is turned? Under the little arrow that someone mentioned it’s still an option.

Don’t worry, they’re coming for you. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

Your second sentence is exactly why I use the browser version on my phone instead of the app (and have recommended the same to my family). I think there are a decent number of people who do the same.

I couldn’t get Notifications to come up. I tried clicking on the bell and on the Notifications number, but neither one of them would bring up Notifications. I filled out a problem form and tried to send that to them, and got an error message saying the form could not be submitted.

They came for me yesterday. It didn’t seem so bad, but I also found an option under the little down arrow to switch back, so I did.

Something peculiar under new Facebook: Yesterday I could see the FBP (F.B. Purity) button on the tool bar. Today it would show for a second or two and then disappear.

It’s only good until next Tuesday, and then we all get assimilated. I really dislike all the space between the 3 panels, but I suppose it’s no worse than here. Bah. It wasn’t broken. I must be getting old, as I now automatically react with “change for the sake of change alone is stupid.”

I too use FB because it is by far the easiest way for me to stay in touch with friends and relatives. At the suggestion of my sister, I tried selling items on FB Marketplace. Besides other stuff, I sold a Magic The Gathering card* for $500. Still, I find the changes annoying. For some reason, the changes cause the FireFox tab with FB to lock up every few hours. I agree with the other posters in despising forced upgrades.

*It was an Unlimited Volcanic Island card. It originally came in a booster pack of 10 cards. So I paid about a quarter for it. I love capitalism!

I doubt that it will last, but so far I’ve been allowed to opt out and stay with “old Facebook”. Despite the fact that it’s now September.

Me too. It switches me, but allows me to change back “for 48 hours.” That allows me to tell them how much I dislike it every two days.

I just repeatedly tell them that it sucks

I’ve given up and left FB in the new look, which I continue to loathe, because on balance using FB is still worth the effort despite the diminished returns, and I’ll have to get used to it eventually in any case. I will say the site does seem to load pages somewhat faster.

Still pissed off about it, though.

The F.B. Purity extension (in Firefox, Google Chrome, Edge, Safari, Opera, Brave and Maxthon) allows you to switch back to the old look. It gives control over a lot of other Facebook elements as well.

I do use that, but it breaks for a little while each time FB makes unnecessary changes, which I sometimes suspect they do simply TO break any browser extensions that give the user any kind of control over their FB.

I haven’t noticed anything which means I’ve probably had the new front end for awhile. What I have noticed is a sudden swing to the almost polar opposite style of feed update.

Previously, if I had clicked off of my feed even for a millisecond, if I decide there was a story I wanted to see there anyway, I’d go back and the feed was almost completely different stories and I would have to scroll far to find the original story.

Now, the same stories are in my feed for days, and when I reach the bottom, it says “you have reached the end of your feed” instead of loading more, less algorithmically-“relevant”, stories. Geesh, couldn’t there be some kind of happy medium between the two?
