Faded Capital 'W'

I freely admit this is not exactly of earth-shattering importance, but I’ve just noticed something a bit odd the past couple of days: the capital ‘W’ in the default font doesn’t seem to display right. That is, the middle part seems to be in a lighter color than the sides, so that the letter looks faded out on a display. None of the other letters have this issue, including the lower-case ‘w’. No problem with boldface, either.

I’ve never noticed this before, and I hope I’m not just losing my tiny little mind.

ETA: Only seems to occur at 100% zoom.

Screen resolution?

Test:

W

Seems fine on my end.

Yes, I’d have to think it is something related to the graphics card, if anything. I’ve tried different resolutions without effect. Also, it shows up the same on both my Dell laptop monitor and an Acer flat-screen.

Just one of life’s little mysteries, I guess.

FWIW, I am seeing this within the thread. The entry box uses a different font, so my opening acronym doesn’t show it now, but I guess it will as soon as I post it. On edit: yup!

We had exactly this conversation a couple years ago or so.

Hang tight, I’ll see if I can dredge up a link . . .

Here it is, from November 2013.

From that thread, we have:

It’s an issue with the Trebuchet MS font. I find it so annoying that I just didn’t install it on my Linux box, and plan to uninstall it once I get a new hard drive and can install Windows.

(It also gets really bold if you zoom in on it [which fixes the W thing], to the point where it’s hard to tell when it’s actually supposed to be bold. And like my fonts on 120% zoom, so I can sit further away from the screen.)

Though I will have to deal with Arial on Windows, so I’ll probably have to use some sort of font substitution. Arial’s fine for some things, but Deja Vu Sans looks so much better here.

OK, thanks. Not losing my mind after all (or maybe I am, but at least not over that).
