Despite the adverts’ claim that Fahrenheit 9/11 is now playing “everywhere,” none of the four or so theaters in Gulfport are playing the movie. Not only that, a search at imdb reveals NO showings in the entire state! They even give locations in Tennessee and Arkansas as some of the “nearest cinemas” showing the movie.
I really thought F9/11 would get shown AT LEAST at the Cinemark here in G-Port. I’m not too big on driving to Louisiana or Florida to watch the film. Are there any plans to expand the number of theaters at which it is being shown, considering how much money it has made already?
Dang it, I had plans to drag one of my gung-ho conservative Republican friends to see it with me! (Bonus entertainment value!)
Click on Friday in your link. It’s in a few places in the state then: Hattiesburg, Flowood, and Ridgeland. But honestly, isn’t Florida and Louisiana closer to you than most of the rest of Mississippi?
I remember when I was a movie theater manager, a customer once came up and wanted a ticket for Movie X, which we were not playing. This information, however, fell on the guy’s deaf ears because he insisted that we must be showing it. I assured him we weren’t but he wouldn’t listen, because, see, he’d heard it even advertised on the TV that we were playing it! Really? What did the ad say exactly?
“Now playing everywhere”.
As for the OP, I suspect the film did well enough that any effort to increase the screen count will (hopefully) reach you eventually. I haven’t heard anything lately, though, in terms of hard fast numbers/dates.
Thanks - I didn’t even see that! (Most likely because I’m stupid.) Hattiesburg is a possibility.
You’re right - I obviously wouldn’t want to drive to Flowood (MS) instead of New Orleans, but I just thought it was notable that there were no showings at all in MS (at this moment).
It’s normal for a limited release to expand slowly. Yesterday, 316 theaters were added, and on Friday, 526 theaters will be added, making a total of 1,710 theaters around the country. It will probably expand even more in the coming weeks.
And once again, I breathe a deep smug sigh of relief that I left Moss Point, MS, far behind me and burned my Mississippi passport. Now I have to decide which one of the 10 theaters near me to go and see the film…
Disney didn’t want to release it at all, and the initial bookings had to be set up in a hurry. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. saw it, and he says, “You gotta see this movie!”
Doesn’t come as much of a surprise to be that Earnhardt Jr would be a fan – from the little I know of him he’s fairly politically active. He’s also a fan of Canadian rocker Matthew Good who’s as much activist as musician, to the point of actually playing a bit part in one of his videos.
