Failpril (Monthly Mini-Rants)

In my experience, teeth usually aren’t good about going back in your mouth once they’re out.

I was able to get through to customer service and got walked through a one-time login that did not require me to get a passkey. I’ll still have to get a passkey for future use, but, as I said, I don’t use this site often so I’ll burn that bridge when I get to it.

I did have to scan a QR code to log on without using a passkey, but at least this time I had someone walking me through it. The verification process did require me to take a picture of my State ID card (just like when I do online check deposits) and a selfie. Fortunately, my hand is fairly steady today.

I’m with you on your original rant. My phone is not surgically attached to me & If I’m on my computer my phone may or may not be anywhere near me; it may or may not be in the same room or even on the same floor.

However, the above line stuck out. Once I did a one-time setup of downloading an app, I have never needed anything other than my phone, the check, & a pen (for endorsement) of said check. What bass-ackwards system requires a copy of an ID every time to make a deposit, which many times would require another trip upstairs to grab my wallet/license.

That does sound fucked up to me.

I just endorse a check and snap a photo of both sides of it for my banking app (Bank of America). Super easy. Much better than the old days when I’d have to drive down to my bank, fill out a deposit slip, stick it in an envelope with the endorsed check, and then go through the menu at the ATM before slipping it into the deposit slot.

Or even earlier than that, when I had to stand in line for a teller.

How could you scan a QR code with your phone if you were trying to login on your phone?

Sorry for being unclear. I had to take a picture of the front and back of my State ID for the verification process. I don’t need to do so to deposit a check; just endorse it and take photos of the front and back of the check to deposit it using my banking app. Although I occasionally have trouble getting the app to take an acceptable photo; for some reason it insists on a black background and I have to move my phone up or down to get the check properly framed.

I think if I had been trying to log in on the phone the QR code would have automatically been scanned. To be honest I got so confused by it all that I can’t remember exactly what it wanted me to do, hence the call to customer service.

never mind.

We adopted a tomcat from the shelter.

For his first vet trip, we put him in the carrier, and put a towel in there for comfort.

He sprayed it.

I asked a staffer to toss it in the trash.

I heard LOUD COMPLAINTS from the next room.

My current mini-rant: I’ve filed a disability / FMLA claim for some surgery next month.

2 days later, MetLife sent a message rejecting the FMLA part because I had not worked 480 hours. Or had not worked 1250 hours (different parts say different things).

Both of these are provably wrong.

Add me to the list of people who do not like the, you have to use your phone to do this. Just recently I logged into paypal and I could not get a list of past transactions listed on the computer screen, it said to scan the qr code to see them. I did not do that, I don’t have the paypal app, and I continue to avoid doing so. It is one of the reasons I don’t use venmo, since it requires a cell phone number.

In any case, I was able to see a list of transaction by using help. Like most places they have ai chatbots now, and I just said that I couldn’t see them or something like that in an effort to register feedback about the problem, and I was surprised when it is just listed them. I was logged in, so it makes sense that it had access to my data, but I still wasn’t expecting a useful answer.

So mini-rant, followed by a success in this case. I have larger rant about the whole, we need your cell phone for everything to the point you can’t even open a bank account in some cases with out one. However that is larger rant that spans multiple months so not appropriate for here.

haha, doesn’t help. I have one and it still fell out. Seeing the dentist tomorrow to see what he says.

We fly to Seattle quite a bit, and I often check to see if it’d be cheaper to fly to London or Paris.

Half the time, it has been (supply and demand, perhaps).

Oh FFS, would you just fucking stop already? We’ve already had our late spring snowstorm just last week!

3:51 PM CST Wednesday 15 April 2026

A late season winter storm is poised to impact southern Saskatchewan beginning overnight through Thursday. Although many locations through southern Saskatchewan experienced pleasant spring weather on Wednesday with highs in the low to mid teens, beginning overnight, the weather will see a stark shift with a wintery mix impulse passing through. Generally, when the precipitation begins overnight, it will be snow for most portions of southern Saskatchewan, however in some places, it may fall as rain before transitioning to snow. The snowfall amounts may vary considerably as there is a high amount of uncertainty as to where the heaviest bands of snowfall will occur. Amounts in the forecast may increase as this system develops. Also of note, from the international border to the Transcanada highway, there will be a risk of freezing rain in the overnight period before the precipitation turns to snow in the morning. This statement may be expanded or upgraded to warnings as this system develops. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to SKstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #SKStorm.

We’re having the opposite; sunny & 90° today…but it’s also everything is coated in yellow pollen season so the car windows need to stay fully up & sealed which makes getting into it like a good sauna & the 'vert won’t see anything but the inside of the garage.

I need a living room lamp so I went to the local electric store.

They did not have much of a selection.

They said that 2 of their suppliers had gone out of business this year.

So … I thought I could order one online.

Then I read the reviews that mentioned assembly required.

What fresh hell is this?

I am not competent at assembling a lamp. What exactly do I need to assemble?
Not comfortable with that.

So I went to Walmart and bought a generic one for the time being.

Flat packed in a box. Attach the upright(s) to the base, insert a bulb(s), attach shade(s). May not need any tools, & if it does they may very well include any hex wrench/screwdriver that you need just like Ikea does.

Unless you get the lamp that I got from Target with “some assembly required”. I took that darn thing apart and reassembled it at least three times and it still leans at about a 15 degree angle. Just enough to be noticeable.

Wear one old shoe & one new one; the difference in sole height will make it appear perfectly vertical; the rest of the room may appear cockeyed, though. :upside_down_face:

I would make an unholy mess of anything like this for sure. I would have to make arrangements for someone to put it together for me. I don’t do well with assemble yourself items and never shop at Ikea for that reason.

I was shopping for furniture a few years ago and saw a bunch of assembly required and shut that down pronto. Thankfully we have a full service furniture store nearby that suits my needs.

I want my lamps and chairs fully assembled and delivered if needed. :slightly_smiling_face:

Too bad you don’t live near me, I’d come assemble stuff for you. I’m pretty decent at it and rather enjoy it.

Such a lovely response! Thank you.

I’ve never been good at this kind of thing.

I wish I was.
