I don’t know if this board can support a fake news of the day thread, but I thought it was worth a try. Looking around the internet, there definitely seems to be enough of it…
So to kick off the thread in a pit worthy way: Two days ago the twitter user @alphakangz (joined in November 2016) tweeted photos of the Fort Lauderdale airport shooter claiming that CNN had published a lightened picture of the perpetrator making him look more white. This was immediately picked up and re-tweeted by the fine folks at PrisonPlanet.com (the website operated by Alex Jones of Infowars fame), the Gateway Pundit (a right wing news and blog site - here is a archive capture of the original piece), and US Representative Allen West (among others). The problem is that CNN had not published any pictures of the shooter and the picture in the tweet was of the wrong Esteban Santiago. Fake news at its finest.
You can read about this more on the MediaMatters blog or at the Daily Beast (who actually broke the story). All the right wing websites I looked at deleted evidence of the story (though I did find that archive capture above) but at least the Gateway Pundit admits they did in their updated article on the shooter.

Allen West has doubled down by replacing the original false pictures with a picture CNN later published that was black and white claiming they did this to make the perp look white. Why CNN would want to do that is not clear to me.
This shit pisses me off and should be highlighted no matter who does it. Assholes!
