Ok, this may be a dumb question and I know there was a huge Fallout 3 thread previously but I’m not going to resurrect that monstrosity so bear with me please…
I just purchased the game for the 360 and downloaded the Operation: Anchorage DLC through Live and I have a question. I understand that the new mission is supposed to activate through an emergency radio transmission but I’m not receiving anything. I just wandered around the wasteland for an hour and there was nothing except “3 Dog” spouting his usual gibberish.
I read on the FO wiki that exiting and entering the tunnel to Vault 101 should cause the mission to activate but that hasn’t done anything. I even looked up and then went to the location in the D.C. ruins where it’s supposed to begin and found nothing. (The access point isn’t where it should be.)
I went back to an earlier save after completing the game once. (I originally completed it back in November after it came out by renting it, but haven’t played it since.) Can it only be accessed through a new game? Am I just doing something completely wrong? Has anyone else had this problem?
With new content set to release again both this month, (The Pitt), and next month as well I figured it was time to pick it up again but I’m concerned about this.
Also, I don’t intend for this thread to be just about my insignificant problems, anyone who has any opinions regarding the DLC, (Looking forward to The Pitt? Disappointed with Anchorage?), feel free to share.
When you load up, it should notify you that you’re getting a new radio channel (i.e. not GNR - another one). Listen to that one and it’ll open up a new quest and map location.
ETA: Operation Anchorage seems to be their attempt to remake Fallout as a FPS, and it doesn’t work that well. OA? WOFTAM. I’m picking up the Pitt on faith, though.
Yeah, I found out what the problem was. I had download Anchorage but then disconnected from Live, and it turned out that it needs the update to run the DLC. (I was running an unpatched version.) I reconnected and downloaded the update and when I loaded the game back up I got the radio message almost immediately.
Having played through it this evening I have to agree with you. It was an interesting little action setpiece but it didn’t really feel like Fallout to me. Even allowing for the Alaskan setting. There weren’t any choices to be made and didn’t have much in the way of a story. I understand the Pitt is supposed to be more in mold of the main game with a storyline and moral dillemas to puzzle through. I’m definitely looking forward to it next week.
