That sucks, sorry. I only get crashes occasionally, and never twice in the same place. For me at least, turning the radio off helped a lot with the opening a door crashes.
Well, there is a command for marking the quest as completed, presumably there’s one for passing one part of the quest or for adding the next one. I’ll have a look-see.
If you want to try a bit more, I’d suggest trying “coc PPurity02”, which should teleport you inside the Jefferson Memorial Gift Shop. I dunno if you have to meet the scientists outside or not, but try teleporting and then waiting. Or walking back outside.
If that doesn’t work, typing “getquestcompleted” in the console, without the quotes, will complete your active quest. Not sure if that completes the whole Jefferson bit, but I expect so.
Other than that, some people have reported crashes because of audio settings being too high. Might be worth a check.
It’s not the end of the world if I miss bits of the quest. This is the second time I’ve played (the first time there was just the occasional crash, possibly due to my graphics card deciding it needs a rest) and the first time I completed the game.
I really just want to complete bits of the main quest so that I can get in with the brotherhood of steel, and eventually get some tesla armour (taken, not given. I’m playing good so I won’t be enclave) Once I have those things I can carry on levelling up past 20 and start enjoying the perks I missed out on due to the 20 level cap.
I’m at work at the mo, so when i get home I’ll try your suggestions. I welcome anything that can let me continue to enjoy this game.
There was actually a point earlier in the game when ANY of the savegames I tried to load immediately resulted in a crash; I just kept trying to load the quicksave and on about the third or fourth try, it was fine. Odd. Maybe keep trying to load it, hope your real-life Luck score is high enough.
I gotta say this is the most boring game to come out since Oblivion. I am just not getting it. And why is it that when they make RPG shooters the movement is a lot less fluid than straight shooters?
I can transport inside the gift shop ok. But nobody follows me, and as soon as I go outside it crashes.
The command 'getquestcompleted requires a paramater - quest. (any idea what the name for this quest is? I assume it’s not ‘meet the scientists at project purity’ though I’ll try that.
It’s worse now. I’m stuck inside the gift shop and I can’t go outside this building without the game crashing. Both my auto and my quicksave are inside this building
reseting the quest just leaves no new quest.
completing the quest with ‘completequest’ does the same.
If I do either of the above the game still crashes when I go outside.
by the way the command to complete the quest is ‘completequest’. ‘getquestcompleted’ just shows you how much of the quest you’ve completed (0.00)
To get out, try “coc RCHangar”, puts you in the Market.
I have a few other possible commands.
The baseID for Waters of Life is 14e8b, used “completequest 14e8b” or “resetquest 14e8b”. There’s also “movetoqt” which moves you to the quest target. Not sure what that’ll do.
I can use the console commands to get past things, but the entire game hinges on those NPCs outside the gift shop, who I assume won’t go anywhere until I meet them, and I can’t meet them because the game crashes. One of them is my Dad so I guess it’s important that I unstick them.
The others are the scientists who I need for the rest of the missions… such as going to the brotherhood of steel headquarters.
Thanks for all your help on this, but I guess I’m fighting a lost cause.
Well, isn’t the quest over when you’re let into the Citadel? Have you tried going there after using the commands to finish the quest?
It struck me that you might be able to move the scientists to you when in the memorial, but I can’t seem to find their reference IDs. You should be able to, though, if you have a save near them. Just open the console and click on the character and you should see on the top of your screen “Name” “Hex_Code”. I’ll see if I have any saves and return.
What you do next is to type the following in the console: “prid refID” then “moveto player”.
You may, if this works, still have issues with them not acting properly; if so use “disable” and “enable” to reboot them.
Well I got busy playing other bits of the game. It occured to me I could carry on from little lamplight. But after a while I realized I can only get anywhere in there if I have the ‘I need to get into vault 87’ speech option enabled, and I can only enable that if I complete the earlier main quests.
The BIG problem with using the console to complete the bits of the main quest is that the next bit isn’t triggered. So I’m stuck again.
I tried your commands. I typed prid 19d09 moveto player. It just says expected end of line (along with a bit of other stuff about script not saved)
edit: It worked. I should have read what you said more carefully. it’s two commands not one. Dad is now walking inside the monument. fingers crossed (though at this point I’ve already set the quest as complete so I don’t know what’s going to happen. if it breaks again I can reset the quest and try again)
Right. I’m back on track! I am immensely greatful for your help Claptree! Now I can get on with enjoying the rest of this game without the 20 level limit, as I originally intended!
