I feel like maybe I should go back and play through Broken Steel. But you install Fallout 3, you got to mod it first off. Then every time you play you have to switch to one monitor. Then you have to go through the intro sequence. But I know once the game gets rolling, I’d get hooked again. Except for it missing a lot of New Vegas features, of course.
Really?
I run FO3 all the time in Windows 7 on a multi-monitor rig. I don’t recall doing anything particular to get it working that way, either.
I love the Conelrad Radio mod for Fallout 3 and NV. They are coldwar era songs and really add atmosphere to the game. IMO the last two games are vastly superior. I also recommend that the game be played without reference to any guides, It just makes the game a lot more fun. There is an excellent published FO3 guide but it is better read after you finish the game because the user is bound to miss quite a bit content.
I have played 3 with Windows 7 with no problems. Make sure to get the mod that changes the look of the gameworld from washed out to natural. Its a vast improvement.
There is a massive mod out there that allows one to play both games in Vegas (and travel from one area to the other), and updates FO3 with upgraded textures from Vegas.
Haven’t tried it myself because it looked like a bit of a bear to get it to work without melting itself down, but it’s out there.
It’s called a Tale of Two Wasteland and is often abbreviated TTW. I tried it on my system. You need to have FO3 and all of its DLC installed as TTW needs to copy assets from FO3 that aren’t in FNV, and TTW doesn’t include them itself due to copyright issues. Because of that, TTW is a bit of a royal pain to install.
I also found TTW to be a bit buggy and it had a lot of compatibility issues with other mods I was using.
AFAIK, only DLC required GFWL. FO3: GOTY works w/o.
That is a spectacular post
It has the virtue of fitting into a text message or a tweet.
Alas, it lacks the virtue of understandability unless you already know the abbreviations.
“As far as I know, only downloadable content required Games for Windows Live. Fallout 3: Game of The Year works without [it].”
In other words, if you bought Fallout 3 and then later bought the various downloadable additional materials, piecemeal, that brain-damaged (now brain-dead) Games for Windows Live is required. If you bought Fallout 3 with all of its DLC at once in the Game of the Year package, it doesn’t require Games for Windows Live.
It’s weird because I’m a huge Fallout fan, and yet I find myself underwhelmed by the announcement. I don’t mean to sneer at anyone who is generally excited, but I suppose the issue for me is that there’s no information whatsoever. They need to give us some idea of what kind of features or theme to expect. Unfortunately, I don’t expect a lot from Bethesda anymore.
Still, if you’re happy about the news then I’m genuinely glad for you. It just seems strange since Fallout was My First Role-Playing Game. I’d never played anything like a western RPG before then, and I was instantly hooked. And then not-too-shockingly played them all except for Brotherhood of Steel because if I wanted to punish myself I’d prefer a root canal.
That’s fair. It’s confirmation of more Fallout, but nothing yet to say how it’s going to be better Fallout.
It’s a teaser…they’re doing a big demo at E3. I plan on watching it online.
A scenario in which I don’t buy the next game seems unlikely to arise. I’m interested in details, but none more so than the release date.
I’m kind of disappointed that, according to leaked screenshots, it’s going to be yet another Gamebryo game. I would have expected Skyrim With Guns, not Oblivion With Guns Again. Again.
I don’t know the screenies you’re addressing, but you do realize that Creation (Skyrim’s engine) is based on Gamebryo, don’t you?
There are still lots of traces of Gamebryo in Creation. Are you sure what you’re seeing in those screencaps are distinctly Gamebryo?
Because all the rumors I’ve heard are that FO4 is Creation engine, and the teaser trailer certainly looks that way. It would be outstandingly bad form to release a teaser trailer based on one engine but the game based on the older one.
Actually, upon rechecking my source, those were screencaps of split-second shots from the trailer :o, such as this. People were pointing out that these characters still use the same skeletons and animations as those of FO3.
And yes, I know Creation is a Gamebryo update, but it still is a big qualitative upgrade. I dunno, maybe I have rosy recollections of unmodded Skyrim (which I haven’t played in ages) but I don’t remember it being so low-tex or pixelated. That bridge is really fugly.
I have a kind of related question. I own Fallout New Vegas on steam, but nowhere on my title does it say “ultimate” or “game of the year” edition. However, when I tried to buy the DLC yesterday, Steam insisted I already own them. When I right-click on the game and look at DLC purchases, it does indeed have a checkmark besides every DLC for the game.
Is this normal? Did the game come with the DLC? I only paid $5 about 2 years ago for it. Was there no “ultimate” version. My Fallout 3 is called “Game of the Year” and includes the DLC.
I have no idea, but I believe that at some point Steam just gave me the GOTY edition of Arkham City. I had bought the game on release day but never bought any of the DLC, never won any contest or anything of the sort, nor was the GOTY edition bundled with any other game I bought. One day the GOTY version just appeared on my list.
I didn’t look the gift horse in the mouth. I’m happy to remain firmly nonplussed about this.
I love this still; the artwork is amazing…looks like we can play as the Undertaker.
Yeah, but mine looks like it just handed it to me. I guess I’ll know when I re-install the game overnight tonight.
