I’m having a bit of trouble finding the right difficulty balance. Very hard was too easy for me, so I bumped it up to survival and instantly got my ass handed to me by some mirelurk hunter. Maybe I should be on hard and just use crappy weapons/armor. Ideally I should be forced to use chems during combat and die once or twice per hour.
You need access to one, but at least on PC it’s a separate key to rename. You just can’t do it in the field.
It does, not sure what was meant, but at least one stat (recoil IIRC) is conspicuously missing.
Many people just rename weapons starting with the caliber to compare.
I rather enjoy the slow-mo, to be honest. Sometimes I’ll put it in VATS mode just to sit and watch a close-action shot of Dogmeat air-mauling a raider.
I’m going to get this.
Did they every fix it on here where you could have more then one companion?
So I was playing and my computer crashed in spectacular fashion.
Went to bright red screen loud buzzing and I had to do hard restart.
Now it won’t power on. Fingers crossed its my new 850w power supply and not my cpu.
Currently, no - but there will certainly be a mod for that…on pc, at least.
It’s not a huge deal, and it’s still a fun system, but it’s definitely worse. Reason being that the percentages are dynamically changing all the time, even after you’ve already queued up and committed your shots (and once you’ve done that, it stops telling you what the percentages are as they continue to change). So sometimes you’ll queue say, 4 shots all at 95% hit chance and commit. Enemy moves slightly behind a wall or a pole or some crap, and you watch all 4 shots go into the wall. You do have the option of aborting the sequence in the middle of it, but it’s not always obvious how the conditions have changed and again, it doesn’t tell you what the new percentages are. So you can end up wasting a lot of ammo/AP with this system.
Can you ignore the settlement system and still do okay in the game? From what I’ve seen of the gimpy interface it seems more like a chore than anything good.
Yes - toward the end of the main quest line there is one quest that requires building a few structures, and at least 2 side quests I know of where you build something, but aside from that it’s optional. I wish it did tie in more with other elements of the game though because it’s fun.
I think the new VATS system is much better than the old. The full pause makes things a bit too easy, especially when you’re being charged by enemies. Yes, the percentages and whatnot change dynamically as creatures move, but that forces you to position intelligently. It also makes non-VATS combat much more rewarding.
As for the settlement system, you only have to do as much as you want. In my experience it’s exactly compelling enough to make me want to play around with Sanctuary a bit. There’s no reason whatsoever to build a lighted garage to hold my suits of power armor, but I did it anyway because it looks neat and wasn’t all that difficult.
There’s no such thing as “positioning intelligently” when you have zero way of knowing how or where things are going to move, and the tiniest shift of a limb makes a shot go from 95% to 0%, without the game ever informing you of the fact as it’s busy switching between cinematic camera angles to show your shots going into walls. Which don’t get me wrong, does look cool but I appreciated the consistency of the time stop much more than this system.
Isnt that more realistic?
Well I don’t think altering time is realistic any way you slice it. But why would you prefer a system that tells you outright “OK, here’s your exact percentage chances of making a shot; go ahead and choose based on this information”. Then you choose, and the game says, “Just kidding! It’s actually totally different now and we’re not going to tell you what it is and you’re probably going to miss, good luck!” It’s a bit silly, but like I said, still fun.
That used to happen quite a bit in Fallout 3 too, as I recall. The game would give you maybe 80% chance to hit and then you’d waste half a mag because a bit of terrain you couldn’t see blocked the shot. I may even feel a little bit better about missing because of changing circumstances than just because a pixel got in the way.
You can always cancel your remaining shots if the target moves.
In fact such movements are rather predictable in general I think I would like the new system just fine if I hadn t this mouse lag that s killing me or at least kill my charachter when I m charged by some baddie and desperatly try to click on a part of their body before they torn me to pieces
It almost sounds like we’re playing different games. I think their movement is super predictable. It’s not like time stops altogether in VATS. You do have to consider the tactical situation though. Is that mirelruk charging me? Aiming at his back leg is a bad idea. Is that raider ducking out from cover? He’s about to duck back in, so I’d better not try for his head, and maybe his arm instead.
To be honest, I think VATS is very situational, but in a good way. It’s for tactical support that’s meant to represent computer assistance, but it doesn’t turn you into a deity who can tag aim and fire four shots at four guys in the literal span of a heartbeat.
Been playing the game on the PC since a few days after it came out and absolutely love it. I’ve playing 3 and NV and both of those I really enjoyed as well. I love the changes made that make 4 so much better though. Some have already been mentioned like the system for looting containers and the free form settlement environment. I also really love the facial expressions people make too lol. I was a little unsure about the weapon mods you can do in game but I’ve really come to love those as well.
But now onto things I don’t like. I don’t know what it is, whether it’s my PC or the game, but good lord the lag. In some parts of the city, it’s basically freezing on one frame for a few seconds, or just completely jittery. It makes it impossible to do anything here, especially if there are enemies. My video card is fine, as it plays everything else in ultra just fine. It’s just certain parts of the city. Googling shows me it’s not just me but it’s not everyone either. I’ve tried some suggestions like reducing fade range or shadows but nothing works. It’s annoying as hell.
My other big complaint is about the major story line.
Ok about the resolution to finding your son. Wtf? I don’t know why that pissed me off so much but it did. Yeah, I found him. That was what the whole point was. But to what end? Seriously not going into too much detail, even under the spoiler tag but it kinda ruined the game for me.
Ugh, and then just fyi lol at Bunker Hill, don’t tell both the Brotherhood AND the Railroad about it. I did so hoping to make the fight against the Institute easier. Instead I show up to find the Brotherhood and the Railroad trying to kill each other. Awesome. Thanks guys.
As a means to scaffold and give purpose to non-quest-based exploration, I found a map showing all the power armor locations in the game and started collecting them, starting at the top of the map and moving downwards. I’m up to ten or eleven suits, and my multi-level garage/armorport is looking pretty badass.
It’s completely unnecessary, of course, but it gives me a structured reason to keep exploring while I continue to avoid finishing the main quest.
I’ve found, I think, seven just by natural play.
