Fallout 4: Now Playing

Okay, jumping to the end of this thread because I finally started playing this game again. With no spoilers, could anyone give me an idea of how far I am in the main quest?

I just

built the teleporter that’s supposed to take me into the institute. I haven’t used it yet.

Maybe half. Depends a bit on how you play your alignments.

Assuming you’re sticking with one main faction and plowing straight ahead, I’d say half. If you’re doing a little work across the different factions (even related to the main story) more like 40%.

Less than half, I would say, though in theory you could finish the main storyline in a day or so from that point.

Sounds good. I was worried I was getting near the end since I had pretty much focused just on main quest stuff the last few times I’ve played. I think I’ll take a break and focus on side-quests for a while.

Nah. Up to your point is effectively the first act in the standard 3-act story arc.

First act ends with the arrival of the Prydwen and the third act starts with using the teleporter.

Don’t worry. The game will let you know when you’re really getting near the end: you get a warning that completing a certain mission prompts a certain faction to declare you an enemy and cut you off from working for them.

I’ve been returning to the Commonwealth Wasteland off an on. I have one character for each faction, two male and two female. My first character, male, has finished the game allied with the Railroad and paired up with Piper. Lately been playing the fourth, a female, aimed at taking over the Institute. To that end, she’s had no contact with any other faction save for the Brotherhood and that was only after a Vertibird conned hostile. Didn’t want any trouble from them so I helped Danse get that transmitter.

'Course, she’ll have to contact the Railroad about building the teleporter, which will be built at the airport.

Played some late last night and found myself in an area where I had never been before. Went to pick up the T-51 near the Old North Church, turned the wrong way, and ended up at the Harbormaster Hotel.

I was super excited when I found the Harbormaster but there’s nothing particularly interesting there.

No, but there’s something interesting offshore.

I thought I’d permanently lost my suit of X-01 Quantum power armor that I’d picked up in Nuka-World. I’d been wearing it around the Far Harbor DLC, and I remembered leaving it at the power armor station at Far Harbor itself. I returned there a few days later/couple of weeks later (game time/real time) and no suit of armor. Figured that I’d made the mistake of leaving a fusion core in it and someone had walked off with it.

Yesterday I traveled to Norhagen Beach and went into the house I’d constructed for myself there. Lo and behold, there was the quantum power armor, safely sitting in the power armor station in the house’s workshop. I must have left it there, but I honestly don’t remember doing so. :smack:

Someone needs to mod a Power Armor LoJack.

There is a map icon for the last suit of PA you wore.

I know about the icon but after I’d left the X01 suit behind, I’d returned to Sanctuary and moved some suits of power armor around in what I think of as my “Power Armor thru the Ages Museum” (open 9:00 - 5:00, admission 10 caps, closed Mondays and major holidays). Thus that map icon showed Sanctuary and wasn’t any help at all.

Just watched a Sentry Bot, a Mirelurk King, and a Legendary Super Mutant Master all fighting each other. I got a [del]rock[/del] Furious Walking Cane.

I enjoyed FO4 a great deal, warts/glitches and all. I’m on my second playthrough because I’m just not ready to leave it yet.

Far Harbor received a number of good reviews, so I added it, but found I didn’t really like it all that much. Actually, it was rather dreary, even for an apocalyptic world. I’m ignoring it on this round. However, you really can’t ignore it when you’re doing radiant quests (building xp to level up) because those quests try to send you there on occasion. I might uninstall it and see what happens.

Nuka World was okay, even somewhat interesting and fun in its missions; at least you get an effective weapon and its variations from the factions, and better standard armor (and some opportunities for unique, if not necessarily improved, power armor).

I wish the companion aspect was a little more robust, especially as you advance in a relationship. For example, after you romance a companion, they say endearing stuff to you but you can’t respond in kind; you just have the same stock replies that were available before the so-called “romance”. It wouldn’t take too much to make those interactions a bit more satisfying - some level of interactive responses based on intimacy level with the companion.

Also, maybe a little more work on companions’ awareness of each other. If two companions are competing romantic interests, it would be nice to build those interactions out a bit more. Again, it needn’t be too complicated.

I come to this as a female in real life, so the relationship component would be important to me.

As for the rest of it, I enjoyed most of the missions, the strategizing, the weapons and shooting up enemies, not to mention calling in vertibirds. I love the exploration factor and the surprises of open world shooter games.

That’s actually rather brilliant. I wonder how hard it would be to code.

I’m trying “survival” difficulty again. Going ok, so far. (Character level 18.) But man! I go through a lot of food and water! (And the carry/weight limitation is a real pain in the butt.)
