I got the Explorer perk the last level I was playing and was surprised at home much I hadn’t gotten to yet. I thought I had really explored a large percentage of the area, but in fact I hadn’t even discovered half of the locations
Not that I’m in any danger of finishing the game any time soon. I still have tons of quests to do before I have to get back to the main quest line.
I can’t help myself. Not many things are interesting enough to keep me focussed when there’s an unfilled triangle to be explored. When I finished my first playthrough, I checked to see how many undiscovered locations were on my map: 8. I frequently take detours thinking “this looks like a place where there’ll be something interesting.” I’m often right, too.
Well, I have to say I’m enjoying the game immensely. I’ve reached level 28 without committing myself to any storyline - I’ve alienated myself from the Legion, but either than that, things can still go any number of ways. I’ve been telling myself that I’m doing it to finish all the quests and see the entire map (I took the Explorer perk), but really, it’s because I can’t decide what to do. Tonight I think I’ll finally save he game and check out my alternatives. It’s a shame - everyone likes me (except for the Legion), and I’d hate to lose that.
In the meantime, I’ve accumulated quite a collection of equipment. My main killing weapon is the Gobi Campaign Rifle; my main walking-around weapon is the All-American. The most invaluable weapon I have is the Pulse Gun - it can take out a securitron in one shot, and any other robot in one. I understand it has the same effect on power armor, but I haven’t tested that yet.
Incidentally, I’ve found the best way for taking out cadazors - riot shotgun. No VATS, just run backward while filling the air with as much buckshot as possible. Those creatures are mean, but they aren’t all that tough.
Yeah, the Gobi is swweeeeet. With Boone and ED-E’s bonuses, from stealth everything just dies. I havn’t tried the riot shot gun, But I found found using a flamer while running backwards to be great against groups.
I don’t know - I find the flamer lacks finesse (and is damn heavy, too). A riot shotgun, with its 12-round magazine and rapid reloading time, can produce a decent area effect *and *be used to blow off ghoul heads in the VATS.
Ahh man, staring a new game always really sucks… Take a VATS shot? miss. See a safe? can’t pick it. See a computer? can’t hack it. Ask a question?, can’t finesse the answer. I get so used to the 80+ everywhere ease of the world.
At the end of House Always Wins II, I set up C4 underneath
All the Securitrons in the Lucky 38’s Penthouse. When Mr. House didn’t like that I was going to keep the chip, I backed up, pressed the detonator and easy money.
I just finished New Vegas on Hardcore mode, and was wondering what my reward was. You know, the one they said I would get if I finished it without doing it the easy way? Well, I found out what it is. All it is is the Achievement saying I finished the game in Hardcore. oooOOOoooo!!! That “gift” is lamer than the Sarsaparilla Prize.
Hey, there’s a patch (for PC) that fixed some framerate issues. It also broke the game entirely for a lot of people, as the player couldn’t interact with any characters anymore. oops.
They re-patched it again a few hours later.
It’s still crashing to desktop regularly, of course. The content of the game is great, but as expected, Obsidian Entertainment did their usual great job of making a buggy mess.
The new patch made a real mess of my frame rates - it was like watching a slideshow in some places. On the official boards it’s said that the d9d3 fix caused a massive conflict - removed it, and it’s still not great. Pretty poor when a third party mod works far better than an official patch! I’m still having to save every three seconds, since I’m getting a lot more CTD’s than I used to.
Since the update, I’m getting my first glitch. As I’m going through REPCONN, and letting Boone kill most of the baddies for me, after a kill (maybe just after ones that go slo-mo), I’m unable to loot, scope, talk, use my PIP, or do most anything until I get out of a crouch, and walk in reverse for a step or two. Easy enough to reset, but annoying.
Likely candidates:
Boone. I just got him (yes, I’m very early into the game), and there may be something odd in how the game processes him delivering the killing shot.
Slo-mo. It doesn’t seem to happen if Boone or myself kills the bad guy without triggering a special animation, though I haven’t been paying enough attention to say it’s never happened.
I had them a lot yesterday, but they’ve pretty much stopped.
I had this weird glitch last week - the Strip gate was suddenly locked, and no way to get in; this, after I had already spent enough time on the Strip to replace members of management in three major casinos. I had to shoot one of the gate Securitrons from hiding and take its key.
It’s the patch. It “fixed” the problem where if you reloaded too soon after exiting VATS, there was a 15-second or so lock on being able to shoot or loot.
Now you have to exit stealth and take a couple steps every time you reload, or you can’t shoot or even put your gun away.
And I’m getting a stupid graphics error now, where the right edge of my desktop flickers into the game.
Way to go, Obsidian! That’s the way to keep people from believing your games are bugged to hell and back.
I have the same or similar problems. Killing Deathclaws in the Quarry with Boone and Ed-E. I can’t loot corpses. If I walk over their corpse, my character almost leaps over it, all I’m pushing is W (can’t remember if I was crouching or not. Can’t enter Pipboy or main menu. Quicksaving then quickloading fixes it.
ETA: Since whatever patch, the CTDs are much more infrequent now. It was the worst when quicksave and autosave never updated beyond a certain point. Once they fixed that it works better.
I’m laying waste to everything Legion this time around, mostly because they were douches in Novac and I started killing them then. So, I’m up to Caesar’s Fort. Specifically, I’m u to his door, and when I go in, they eat my lunch.
I may have to tell Boone to stay outside the door, set up plasma mines, and coax them all out. Other approaches?
What weapons/build are you using? Do you have Rex or ED-E alongside Boone? Regardless, make sure you drug yourself up with some MedX, Psycho and Jet. Pop some Turbo as you enter and get some headshots off, then hit VATS straight away. Focus on one enemy at a time - preferably the Praetorians first, since their Ballistic Fists pack one hell of a punch.
