Fallout New Vegas.

I left Boone (and Rex) outside… Way outside, back by the entrance to the campsite.

I took a cocktail of chems, activated a Stealth Boy, entered the tent while sneaking, and put a .50cal round into Caesar’s brain-case.

Then I ran like a coward. Those Praetorian Guard are no joke.

I think I posted earlier, but I tried every realistic close combat approach and got by face punched off every time. Then I went back to the well, VATS and sniper(With the nifty little Gobi I stumbled on on my way there
I had taken the action boy perks and the reapers spirit. I stepped through the door, Boone dropped the guy by the door, and I just started popping head as the came around the corner, I don’t think I got close to touched.
There is probably an energy alternative, but either way you need insta-kills at range, because when they get close you die.

If you do the Wild Wasteland trait, holy hand grenades make it a slaughter, 2 grenades through the door from stealth and kerblooie.

Otara

I left the tent and shot them as I kept backpedaling. Flawless victory.

Do chems like psycho and jet give you addiction issues like in Fallout 3? I’ve ignored them all for fear of that.

I got slaughtered the first few times I tried too but later I did it with Boone and it was easy. I was chemmed up to the eyeballs and we both used bad-ass submachine guns with 200+ DPS.

The glitches are… frustrating.
Was running the rangefinder quest and found that the little girl is stuck in perma-flee mode while the little boy is evidently now up at the very top of the map, in the beautiful Invisible Wall mountain range.

Guess I didn’t want the ability to nuke my enemies from orbit anyway.

I did it with no companion and no drugs… but with the Alien Blaster. You have to time your VATS right (2 shots per Praetorian, make sure you go with the nearest ones first - and don’t waste action points on the dog), but it can be done.

Speaking of Boone, he disappeared. I’ve heard it’s a glitch, especially with Boone. If you take the elevator to the 5th floor in Vault 22, your NPCs will come back.

Yes, but you can certainly afford to drug up for big fights without worrying about addiction. Even if you do get addicted, you can visit a doctor for a permanent addiction cure.

Also, New Vegas has added “Fixer” a drug that temporarily removes stat penalties for addiction.

And, if you’re really worried, you can always just save your game before popping drugs, as addiction is a percentage chance each time you consume a chem.

Goddamn it, this game has become a buggy piece of unplayable shit after weeks of relative stability. Great job with the latest ‘patch’, Obsidian - I can play the game for ten minutes tops before the damn thing freezes up forcing a restart; picture freezes, but sound still acts as normal (gunshots, radio and everything). Can’t Ctrl + Alt + Del, can’t Alt + Tab out of it, nothing. Never happened before the patch.

On the official forums word is that memory leaks and Avira 10.0 is to blame. Which annoys me, since I like Avira - switched from AVG after it fecked up Firefox. Will experiment with turning the guard off and all that jazz, or I’ll have to switch to something else. Avast, probably.

I’m having the same experience. The game started out all but unplayable, and has gotten noticeably worse with each patch. Frame rates have gone from fine to maybe 10 FPS, using scopes or opening bodies while sneaking requires a little dance after each one to “unstick” the interface. I haven’t been seeing random crashes any more, but the actual gameplay’s gotten so bad there’s not much difference.

My frame-rate’s actually gotten a lot better since the most recent patch, FWIW. Still getting crashes, though, unfortunately.

I haven’t had a crash (or any other problem) for a while now, actually.

I’ve been running with the D3D9 ATI patch pretty much since I’ve gotten the game (after a first few mediocre hours of the game’s own drivers), and in the couple of hours I’ve been playing after the patch, the performance seems pretty much the same (minus the weird little lockout bug I posted upthread). I know there’s a big warning on the page there that says “Note: After the 2010/11/9 patches, this fix might be obsolete. Make sure your game is patched, and see if this makes it run better or not,” but it still seems like something’s working decently for me. Worth a try if you haven’t already put this one in.

Hehe anybody else run into an issue of immortal radscorpions? I came across what I thought was about 5 giant ones. So I started shooting. But they kept coming, and they kept coming. I ran out of charges for my primary and secondary weapons, and was getting really desperate, thinking I must have stepped into a serious area with that kind of protection. But then it occurred to me, there were no where near the number of corpses and ash piles there should have been. The damn things were staying dead for about 3 seconds, then coming back at me with full health.

Also a result of the patch - random mobs being tagged as essential, and thus unkillable.

This is probably the source of the " is unconcious" messages.

That is why the unconscious message was there. That problem was the end of me playing until a few hours later when they fixed lots of random creatures being essential.

I wish the inventory transfer screen was better. I hate having to scroll and scroll to transfer or sell. It’s very annoying to spend minutes sorting your stuff during transfer to accidentally hit the A key and find everything from your locker now in your inventory.

There’s some mods that make the UI a bit better. One that I use (MTUI) basically just makes all the tiny scrollable windows a lot bigger, which is a start.

Anyone else having trouble with the Euclid C-finder not working anymore? It worked for me once, but then every time I tried it again it just targeted and wouldn’t fire. Then I’d see the targeting lasers all the time, even if I changed weapons.

I found the fix: fire it, save the game while it’s targeting, exit, start the game again and load the save.
