I didn’t see how any of it was any more offensive then usual, pretty much the standerd routine of Peter being a dumbass and almost wrecking things.
I’m not Jewish, so I could easily have been mistaken. However, the most offensive part would likely be Shatner playing Tevye in The Fiddler on the Roof, and hamming it up. If not to Jews, then to people who like FotR.
According to my nephew, Fox has a strict policy about religious humor.
My mother saw it (on semi-legal download from previously mentioned nephew) about 2 months before she died, and it was the last time she really laughed. I have a soft spot for that particular ep for that reason, if no other.
Every Jew I know thinks it was funny…but then I don’t have to read Fox’s mail.
The AS blurb said those who owned the DVD knew that the lyric had been changed. Then it said that those who don’t own the DVD ought to.
I do watch TFG regularly, but I’ve never found it particularly offensive before. The only thing that got me in Weinstein was the “killed my Lord” reference, even though it was apparently the lyric that was changed. Mentioning it, at all, seemed unnecessary – I wonder if that’s what made Fox pull the plug on the episode?
The Optimus Prime thing was brilliant. Maybe moreso because I just found out who Optimus Prime is.
Maybe someone can help me on one thing – isn’t William Shatner Jewish? Am I taking too much from “The Hannukah Song” or was Adam Sandler goofing?
