For weeks Adult Swim’s been advertising When You Wish Upon a Weinstein was to be aired November 2 @ 11 p.m. I tune in and my digital cable guide tells me Family Guy should be on. It’s not. Some anime’s playing.
A very disappointed JuanitaTech goes to sleep at 11:15 or so. What the hell happened?
Didn’t air last night, instead they had the final episode of Big O “The show must go on” with a very nasty prank to viewers at the beginning (showed what appeared to be a RERUN of “stripes” but then a card that said “just kidding” showed up and the real final ep aired.
Do not fret, The Family Guy episode will be on next week
Well, the episode has finally aired on Cartoon Network. My call is not particularly funny and skirting the fine line of offensive during Peter’s song.
There was a mention during the AS bumpers that the version which aired had different lyrics than the one that’s included on the DVD. Can someone explain the difference?
Yeah, there was a screw-up with airing the finale of The Big O. It was originally supposed to air October 31st, but Adult Swim claims that the tape for episode 26 (the finale) was labeled episode 20. So, you had a bunch of very angry Big O fans.
That night was very entertaining, in a surreal sort of way. Posts and threads of “what happened?” were deleted by the Adult Swim message board moderators. This triggered a flood of posters posting thousands of angry posts about everything going on. The Adult Swim staff held a Halloween webcam party the same night, and a couple staff members insulted the fans. One woman told them in not-too-pleasant terms to grow-up and get a life; another one mooned the webcam. And Adult Swim didn’t address the situation at all until the following afternoon.
TeaElle, I’m Jewish and I wasn’t offended in the slightest. I absolutely adore Family Guy. Admittedly, that episode isn’t my favourite, but that is nothing to do with it’s content.
My favourite episode is “Stuck together, Torn Apart”. Now if only they would bring it back for another series…
The jweish stuff didn’t bother me but as someone whose worked with mentally and physically handicapped children I was bothered by the “retard” jokes, especially stewie hitting the left side of his chest with his right hand and saying “duhhh”.
Meh. I think the song and the episode’s high concept were more offensive than usual, sometimes just plain too offensive. The song also wasn’t very funny. The latter half of the episode was quite good, esp. the Vegas rabbi (and the sign on his temple).
From what I’ve read, the line they were referring to was “I don’t think they killed my Lord, I need a Jew.” It was originally “Even though they killed my Lord, I need a Jew”.
Frankly, the only thing I found even remotely funny about the episode was Optimus Prime. Why they banned it is beyond me. The one about Hitler having his own TV show would have been more offensive, I’d have through.
As someone else pointed out, they make fun of everyone else, including Catholics, pedophiles, alcoholics, the Pope (who’s Catholic BTW ), etc., and get away with it. But make fun of Judiasm and bam Fox bans you? And frankly, I thought it was more of kind of tribute, showing how little the family knew about Judaism. Sure, they got made fun of in the process, but who got made fun of more? The Catholics or the Jews?
