Kalhoun referenced this in another thread, and I had to post it here:
Good one. Is Snootchie-bootchies one word?
Whoa. (although that could be from just about any Keanu movie).
I am embarassed to even admit I’ve seen the film:
“Ditto”
Ghost
Leeches!
Probably my all-time favorite six word exchange (from memory):
Elwood: Shit!
Jake: What?
Elwood: Rollers.
Jake: No!
Elwood: Yeah!
Jake: Shit!
Hoooaaah!
(with the proper Pacino voice)
A$$hooooole!!
- Kevin Kline, “A Fish Called Wanda”
From Wayne’s World: “Not!”
And I don’t know if they’ve ever made it into movies, but two great ones from history:
The Spartan general to Alexander the Great’s messenger: “If.”
And Patton (I think): “Nuts.”
Finally, if we’re just considering famous quotes, not great ones, we can add “Yippee!”
There was supposed to have been a one-word battle report from and English soldier: “Peccavi” (Latin for “I have sinned”, i.e. “I have Sind”)
"Detective!!"
- Kevin Spacey, “Se7en”
General Anthony McAuliffe.
Oh please let’s not.
In re peccavi:
Apparently this story is in some doubt (are we surprised?). According to this site the issue of Punch in question is from May 18, 1844. Perhaps someone wants to go to the library and check if this is legit?
Anywho… back to the discussion at hand.
From a film I think we can all remember:
“Shagalicious”
From Red River with John Wayne, Montgomery Cliff and Walter Brennen
“yehaww”
which was answered by
“Yehawww”
which in turn was answered by
“Hiyahha”
which in its turn was answered by…but I think you get the idea.
And there is always Tarzan with Johnny Wismiller
“Iyeyeyeyey” or however it would be spelled.
From the TV show MAS*H
“Horsefeathers”
Haven’t seen this yet. . .
Antici. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .pation
This is interesting. Many of these lines can be grouped into one of a few categories:
1. Nonsense words that only have meaning in the movie itself:
Ni!
Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious
Jumanji
and, (I’m guessing)
Snoochie-booches
2. Words that are memorable because of the way a particular character says them in the movie:
Mawwiage
R-r-r-r-r-r-revenge!
Bogus/Excellent
and probably also
Fugghedaboutit
3. Words that are memorable because they are foreign:
Tatanka
merde
paulberserker where is “Home” in ANH? Who says it? I have to say I don’t remember it.
