Definitely Seth Rogen. The funny thing is I like his acting and his movies, I just don’t like the way he looks.

The old fashioned “Jewish comedy actor” exemplified by Woody Allen - urban, intellectual, neurotic, cerebral - has definitely been replaced by the Judd Apatow version of Jewish comedy. But I do not like this new version, as much as I hated the old one. People like Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill are not good ambassadors for “Jewish comedy.” The urban, intellectual sophisticate has been replaced by the fat, obnoxious, disheveled, pot-addled/drunken loser. Apparently this is the new “Jewish comedy.”

Interestingly, Judd Apatow’s whole crew of regular actors - Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Paul Rudd and Jason Segel - are all Jewish. But ONLY the unkempt, fat, gross Rogen and Hill ever actually play explicitly Jewish characters. Franco, Rudd and Segel, who are all much better looking and more charming, play characters whose ethnic/religious identity is never brought up.

Yeah… they are Hollywood’s “Jew Crew”. Not exactly the “Rat Pack”, are they?

I came in here to mention Brad Pitt. I seem to recall reading somewhere that he was real big into the “personal funk” thing for a while. No bathing, no deodorant, no tooth brushing/mouthwash. I don’t get the appeal of the filth look, but some of these nominees are just that - a look. Pitt actually *was *a bacteria playground.

And Christina Aguilera? She’s smokin’ dirty! Kind of like a Gina Gershon dirty… with body oil added.

I just wanted to corroborate on the stench of Mr. Pitt. Pitt’s pits if you will. Several years ago when they were filming the dog race scene at the local track (Derby Lane) several ladies in my office were extras. They were all amazed at how filthy and smelly he was. And small. They told me his pants had to be safety pinned to keep them on. Now, how a multi million dollar film doesn’t budget for clothes that fit I don’t know, but that’s what I was told.

Matthew McConaughey apparently does like anything that “interferes with his natural smell” including deodorant.

Now, maybe his natural smell is cookies, but I don’t think so.

I imagine his natural smell as a cross between the Large Animals exhibit at the zoo, and a homeless guy at the McDonald’s.

My mom and I were talking about this the other day. I know Laurie as the younger, proper-looking Prince and Bertie and “Fry &” but I am not digging his current scruffy look. He should have a “hair do” and a shave. And maybe a nice starched shirt, too.

I think the way they do him up for House makes him look like he’s not growing old gracefully.

I actually think he looks more handsome as house than he did as anyone else. All his other roles make him look like a berk.

I agree completely. Hugh Laurie really does nothing for me when he’s cleaned up, but the scruffy House look works for him. Can’t say I’m really loving the short hair that he’s been sporting this season, though. I hope he grows it out to its previous (still fairly short) length.
