Does anyone know of any famous robberies where a high profile criminal unwittingly stole from another high profile criminal, and what happened after?

purely fictional example:
In 1930’s, Bonnie & Clyde hold up a business, getaway with a good deal of dough, only to discover after the fact, and after it’s too late, that said business was front for a money laundering operation owned by Al Capone…ooops

I can think of about a hundred examples, but the war between Al Capone, Dion O’Bannion and “Bugs” Moran which led up to the St. Valentine’s day massacre is still going on in one form or another.
