I’ve heard him slam Carrot Top and accuse him of stealing his act. (Yes, Gallagher, you were indeed the first comedian ever to think of using props- in fact you were so original that other comics were copying you before you were ever born.) It was actually for this reason that he licensed his lookalike brother to appear as Gallagher 2 and appear in smaller venues, to recoup the revenues he felt he was losing from “copycat” comedians. Gallager 2 was allowed to use his brother’s old routines [but no jokes from his current material at the time] and split the take 50/50 with his brother (which believe it or not still earned his brother a six-figure income back when Gallagher was bigger).
Gallagher 1 filed a cease-and-desist order when he learned that some venues were dropping the 2 part from the bill, and he learned his brother was telling some of his current jokes, and his brother was successfully sued for $75,000 when the sledgomatic flew off it’s handle (rather like Gallagher himself) and injured an audience member. There was a nasty court battle that Gallagher 1 won.
I wonder if there’ll ever be a Carrot Top 2.
