Ellis Dee, the tone of your last post is suitable for the Pit, but not Cafe Society. And I agree it’s time for everybody to drop this entire hotness issue, at least in this thread. Anyone interested should start a new thread in IMHO.
She was born in Israel. Jerusalem, to be precise. Her father is from Israel. Why wouldn’t she want to live there at least part of the time?
I think she’s a very good actress, who’s been in her share of iffy movies, but more decent/good/great ones than bad or iffy ones. I haven’t seen all of her movies, but The Professional, Heat, Beautiful Girls, Mars Attacks! (yes, I think that’s one of the good ones, shut up), Where The Heart Is, Cold Mountain, Garden State, V For Vendetta, Closer (she got an Academy Award nomination for that one), Goya’s Ghosts, My Blueberry Nights, The Darjeerling Limited, The Other Boleyn Girl, Brothers, I like all those. Maybe they vary in quality, and they’re not all going to be to everyone’s taste, but I thought they were all worthwhile. Her stock went down because of the Star Wars movies, but she is NOT a bad actress. She’s phenomenal in Black Swan and I do expect her to win the Best Actress award for it. I’m not going to be crushed if she doesn’t, I’m more of a Nicole Kidman fangirl and would like to see her win for Rabbit Hole, but she already has one so I won’t be crushed if Nicole loses to Natalie either. For wishful thinking, I’d like to see Jennifer Lawrence win over both of them, but that will never happen. Jennifer’s nomination for Winter’s Bone will be her reward.
I don’t get where Natalie seems high maintenance either. She’s smart, beautiful and successful which drives a lot of people insane with petty jealousy. If you slight the tabloids, real or imagined, they’re going to be vicious tearing you down (Angelina Jolie found that out, but like Natalie, doesn’t care). She seems like she might be a bit aloof, but that’s to be expected due to all the dipshits and asshole paparazzi out there. She’s had to suffer a lot of fools since she was 11, I’m sure.
I like the fact that she gave up acting full time to go to college. She graduated from Harvard, which might make her seem hoity-toity to teabagger types. I love this quote from that time: “I’m going to college. I don’t care if it ruined my career. I’d rather be smart than a movie star.” According to IMDB trivia, she traveled alone, no entourage, to Morocco and Guatemala. She “had to miss the premiere of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) so she could study for her high school final exams.”
Come on, this is the person who said: “The moment you buy into the idea you’re above anyone else is the moment you need to be slapped in the face.”
I can’t be bothered to find out the exact reason so I said whatever I half-remembered from an interview. “Or something” indicates my uncertainty as well as my lack of interest in being more precise.
The point is that marrying a French ballet dancer and having a movie career may make it logistically interesting to continue that.
Frenchmen can’t convert, or something? There’s no Ballet in Israel?
Movie stars got to live somewhere in between gigs. Jerusalem’s just as accessible to Hollywood as, say, France, where Johnny Depp lives, or all over the Third World, as Angelina Jolie and Bradd Pitt seems to prefer.
