Fannie Mae Candy Ohio!

As you must of all heard Fannie Mae Candies has closed their doors in Chicago. After some many years of being involved in our big windy city, they decided to put more people out of jobs. Yeah right President Bush, the economy is getting better What! This company has been in Chicago before i was born. The last Fannie Mae Candy finally closed their doors this week, located on State Street in the Loop. People over here were devistated and were buying hundreds of dollars worth of that fine chocolate candy. People were walking out with bags full.

On the local news here in Chicago said one disturbing thing. The good news is that the candy will still be available at Walgreens and Dominicks foods. The bad news is they looked on the back of the new white box and the address read with an Ohio address. What! They stumped everybody especially here in Chicago. The workers that lost their jobs heard the news and are outraged. Nobody knows for sure if they did move to Ohio, but rumors are they did. Well i guess time will tell what the real truth really is. Or is this the end of those rich chocolates that melt in your hand before you eat them gone for good. Whats next Marshall Fields Frango mints. NOoooo!

Alpine Confections out of Utah bought them. http://www.zwire.com/news/newsstory.cfm?newsid=10925416&title=Sweets%20surrender Candy%20outlet%20closes%20as%20parentco…&BRD=1363&PAG=461&CATNAME=Top%20Stories&CATEGORYID=410

That’s not to say that an Alpine factory in OHio ain’t making them.

Frangos haven’t been made in Chicago since 1999. They are now made in Pennsylvania. Interesting history here and here.

No, I did not hear that until I went to Chicago this week and saw that every Fannie Mae store, kiosk, and box was empty. I go to Chicago to get trinidads and there are none. (Okay, I had other reasons for going, so it wasn’t a total loss!)

I didn’t hear anything about them being made elsewhere and available at Walgreens & Dominick’s, however. Must get someone to mail me trinidads!

Oh yeah, I got some Frango chocolates as small consolation. Very small consolation. :frowning:
