I know there’s a weekly comic book thread, but this is the only comic I read, and it’s monthly. I want to discuss episode/issue #11 - Is anyone else following this series?
I follow it.
I more or less liked issue 11, though it wasn’t my favorite. I’m hoping that Buffy’s acknowledgement of Satsu’s love won’t diminish the tension/affection between them. Though I don’t think Buffy’s about to ‘pull a Willow,’ I think it’s notable that Buffy spends a lot of time touching and hugging Satsu throughout the issue, even after the “I love you,” thing was out in the open.
Twilight isn’t thrilling me. He seems to be a ‘talk more, fight less’ villain, ala Adam (who I hated). My guess? Twilight is Riley, pumped full of even more advanced super drugs again.
In the words of my sister – What? You mean Andrew can’t control his slayers? Honestly, what where the Scoobies thinking, giving him a squad?
I’m getting a little tired of Giant Dawn, but spoilers say that that arc is probably coming to a close.
at the end of issue 10 they hinted that Xander was going to enlist the aid of a former ally - My first thought was Angel. After all, he was pretty much left with no choice but to get over her after Italy, then I thought it might be Adam - all he needed was a new power source - but flying was never one of his shticks - nor was it one of Riley’s. But Buffy knows Twilight. Could he be from a previous Buffy Comic? This is the first one I’ve been following.
I think the other Buffy comics are considered ‘fanworks’ while Season 8 is seen as cannon, at least in Joss’s eyes. Most likely, Twilight’s going to be a character from the series to avoid confusion.
I’ve heard two conflicting spoilers in re: Xander’s ally. I’m not sure how you feel about spoilers for upcoming issues, though, so I’ll refrain.
Who do you think Buffy’s betrayer will be? Willow is too obvious, her relationship with Giles is already strained, Xander…could be. Buffy and Xander are awfully close lately. Still, my money’s on Dawn.
No! I don’t follow the comics because I’m a cheapskate that is waiting for large TPBs to be released but I know the basics of the storyline and as the only Riley fan in existence (or the only one who is shameless enough to admit it), don’t like this idea at all.
Wheeee! #12 arrived today!
And now we know who the “old ally” is, but he sure wasn’t Buffy’s ally - although, she did seem to enjoy her encounter with him…
I’ve got some issues with #12, “Wolves at the Gate”, part 1, especially:
There are mystical wolves roaming around the castle, one of the mystics ambushes Willow, and yet the sight of Buffy and Satsu in bed with each other so distracts Xander, and Willow, who inexplicably escapes from her attacker, that they were more concerned about Buffy’s sex life rather than the immediate problem of the attack? Willow, bloodied and having just fallen through the ceiling and then says, “I think we’re under attack…Why are you in bed with Satsu?” This struck me as nuts.
Then there was Issue 11, in which
Buffy seemed to be surprised to learn about her leading own role in robbing the Swiss bank.
What the heck was that about?
To be fair, imminent potential horrible death from a dangerous, mystical source is something that happens fairly regularly. Buffy sleeping with women isn’t. In this case, it’s probably the second that would be more suprising to her.
I completely agree - and I am rather disappointed that the writers took this path
I’m not. I thought that whole sequence was hilarious!
Although I have given thought to killing Joss for the “unmasking” fakeout in #11.
