I was just offered the following fantasy baseball trade:
I trade Dexter Fowler, OF (Col) and get Austin Jackson, OF (Det).
The funny thing is, I picked up A. Jackson as a free agent early in the season and traded him away. But that shouldn’t matter for this trade.
League offensive scoring for: HR, R, RBI, SB, and OBP. We are also a keeper league, but neither player was drafted, so both are ineligible to be a keeper.
Should I do it? The other guy is banking on Jackson’s high trade value now, but all Fowler really offers is a nice number of stolen bases. However, he only has 5 so far this year.
I’m not that familiar with Fowler. I’d say Jackson won’t be hitting .370 after the All-Star Break, so he’s going to slide at *least *a little bit. The question is “when and how bad?”
Thanks. I decided to make the trade, since the other manager is infamous for withdrawing trade offers quickly. Fowler is not someone with huge upside, so why not?
The only reason I can see is that Kelly Johnson is playing way above his skill level (Uribe is a non-factor here). But he’s not going to be as bad as he was last year, and Hughes has the ability to maintain a high level of play (maybe not this high…). If you need the pitching, this is exactly the type of trade that can work for everyone.
