Even still, great job. I would thnk you have a decent chance at the playoffs.
What’s not to like? Top 5 QB? Check. Top 4 WR? Check? Solid depth of starters? Check. Good value? Check.
As you pointed out, the only real downside is the lack of a true stud RB, but I think Grant will have a good year, Slaton should be fine, and you have some depth behind them (although no one I would think will break out in a big way). No Wow! guys with huge upside, but excellent team. Good Luck
Worth noting that Slaton has put on more than 10 pounds since last season to improve his chances of holding up as a feature back. He’s at 215 now, same as Cadillac Williams, Adrian Peterson, etc.
10 team league, yahoo standard (QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K, DEF)
This is after some moves.
QB: Aaron Rodgers, Brett Farve
RB: Steve Slaton, LdT, Cedric Benson, Larry Johnson
WR: Greg Jennings, Bernard Berrian, Desean Jackson, Roy Williams, Donnie Avery, Devin Hester
TE: Gates
K: Folk
DEF: San Diego
Overall, I like it, though I’m not sure having 4 WR #3s makes up for having no WR #2s. Also pretty much gave up week 5, since the packers and chargers are on bye that week.
edit: I drafted
-
(9) LaDainian Tomlinson - (12) Steve Slaton
- (29) Greg Jennings
- (32) Aaron Rodgers
- (49) Antonio Gates
- (52) Roy Williams
- (69) Bernard Berrian
- (72) DeSean Jackson
- (89) Larry Johnson
-
(92) Cedric Benson -
(109) Kevin Walter -
(112) Mark Clayton -
(129) Jake Delhomme -
(132) New England -
(149) Nick Folk
Biggest mistake was losing Kevin Walter, best move was getting Avery over Mark Clayton. Or Farve over Delhomme.
VVV I always make that mistake, I’m not sure why
Must have taken some moves to turn Larry Fitzgerald into a running back.
You have two bona fide WR2s in Jennings (more of a #1, really) and DeSean Jackson.
Yeah, people were going nuts with WRs in the first few rounds. I had expected the top few QBs to go early as well so I was happy to get Manning. Hopefully my receivers will be alright, since things look ok everywhere else.
Ok, I’ll go. My money league draft was Sunday. I’m the two-time defending champion so the pressure is on.
12-team league, 15 rounds. Special PPR (0.5 for RB/WR and 1.0 for TE), TDs are 4 pts for QBs and 6 for everyone else, regular rules otherwise apply. I picked 3rd in a standard snake draft. Starting line-up is 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. Draft round is in parentheses.
QBs:
D. McNabb (7)
J. Campbell (13) (the Redskins are playing the Lions Week 4 - McNabb’s bye week)
RBs:
M. Forte (1)
B. Wells (5)
R. Bush (6)
M. Lynch (9)
L. Washington (8)
L. McCoy (12)
WRs:
R. Wayne (2)
G. Jennings (3)
W. Welker (4)
S. Breaston (10)
TE:
V. Shiancoe (11)
K:
R.Gould (15)
DEF:
Miami (14)
My impressions are that I screwed up by taking Welker at the end of the 4th and Wells at the beginning of the 5th. I passed on Fast Willie, Lenwhale, Cedric Benson, K Moreno, and Jonathan Stewart. I wasn’t really excited about any of those guys and at least wanted to go with Wells’ upside. Hopefully some combination of Wells and Bush can get me through until Lynch comes back and I’ll have a little more flexibility. My best picks, I think, were McNabb in the 7th and Lynch in the 9th.
I like your team, though I don’t have much experience in PPR formats. I think the only big mistake you made was not drafting a top-flight tight end, considering the extra points your league awards for receptions by a TE.
My work FF league is looking for 2 more players. The draft may be tomorrow morning, so act fast! PM me if interested.
I’m starting a yardage pool contest that you guys may be interested in. Check out the thread.
This was a really good draft. Reggie Bush in the 6th in .5PPR? He went round 1 in a .5PPR league I’m in.
It was also the crazy reach of the draft - even in PPR Bush isn’t great. Not bad in the 6th, but I don’t see him ever being a huge stud.
Yeah, I agree. I took Dallas Clark in the 5th last year but we had one fewer spot in the line-up (we did 1 RB, 1 WR, 2 RB/WR, 1 TE) so the margin for success/failure was a little finer. This year, with the extra spot, my thought was to wait on a tight end and try and get a couple of guys with decent upside. Then, get this, the guy with the #1 pick took Clark and Antonio Gates back to back with the last pick of the 4th and first pick of the 5th. I’m not sure what his strategy is, it’s the first year he’s played in our league. So, at that point I had gone RB/WR/WR/WR with my first four picks and was feeling a little pressure to get another decent RB at #51 so I took Beanie Wells. By the time it got back to me for pick #70, Witten, Gonzalez, Daniels, Winslow, and Cooley were all gone. So I just waited. We’ll see how it turns out. I’m assuming that the guy with Clark and Gates will want to move one of them, I’ll just have to see if I have anything he wants.
No kidding. He was my first round pick two years ago. I may use him at RB/WR, depending on the timeshare and injury situation with Thomas works out.
Scoring question: If a RB throws a TD pass on a trick play, does his fantasy owner get points?
Yep, a pass TD is a pass TD. He’d get 4 points in most leagues.
Yup. There are far better options for RBs out of the backfield. About 10 of them. Bush is returning punts (or is it kickoffs?), but that doesn’t even come close to justifying a first round pick, let alone a top 50 pick.
Especially since standard leagues on CBSsportsline.com and NFL.com don’t award points for return statistics anyway…
Man I’m such a first game whore. I’m starting Santonio Holmes tonight even though I shouldn’t, just so I have someone to watch for tonight.
Since more and more teams are going to multiple RB sets, what do you think of the strategy of playing 2 RBs from the same team in the same week? For example, I have LT and Sproles. I’m waiting to Week 4 to get Lynch back, and my other backs are K. Moreno and Cadillac Williams. I’m seriously considering playing LT and Sproles this week vs. Oakland. If I had D. Williams and J. Stewart on Carolina, I’d consider starting them both.
