Fantasy football general discussion

I got 3rd place scoring in the SDMB big league (20 teams) and played the best scoring team. Overall, I have the highest score in the league by a pretty substantial margin, but I’ve also got the highest points against total in the league, so that I’m actually in 4th place in my own 5 team division with like 25% over the average league score.

I beat the team with the highest scoring in the league by a pretty substantial margin and jumped into 2nd place overall (from 10th last week). It wasn’t that big of a surprise to me, since I had been playing down several players the first few weeks (D. Bowe, W. Welker, L. Moore, S. Breaston, Bulger/Stafford, B. Scaife, and a Polomaluless Steelers’ D), and have just now gotten everyone back on board. I’m 5th in scoring - a miracle considering my previous handicaps.

After a monster week I jumped from 2nd to last to 4th place overall in the All-Pro league. I’m pretty thrilled with my team after a string of disappointing game to start the season and I think a handful of good roster moves will have the trend continuing.

Just a heads up to everyone. I now have Ronnie Brown in 3 of my 4 leagues, so I predict this week he will be lined up to take the shotgun snap when suddenly and inexplicably an 18 wheeler going 90 miles per hour crosses the field and takes him out. Plan accordingly.

Actually, I have high hopes for him. I’m heavily invested in him. He’s now the center of the Miami offense. He’s a bit of an injury risk but he has been pretty healthy lately. I’m irritated that Ricky Williams gets the ball so much, but as much as they run they can support a fantasy RB1 and RB2.

What do you guys think of his prospects for the rest of the season?

He’s been very productive, even with Ricky, and I suspect he’ll be good the rest of the way.

He’s the best all-around running back in the league. Yes, I really mean that.

I like the Wildcat but I think it’s going to lead to some inconsistency in fantasy scoring for him. He might have a few monsters but he might have a few 60 yard, 0 TD games too.

Yes, but every running back has some of those regardless of what offense the team runs.

Ricky willams you are the bane of my existance.

Why the hell did Donald Brown get no carries in the second half after rushing for 54 yards on two carries in the first? Does Tom Moore have Joseph Addai in his fantasy league or something?

He went off the field with a stinger after that big second run. Presumably he was either too injured to return of they were being cautious with him having a big lead.

Ah, thanks.

Matt Schaub and Donald Driver for Andre Johnson and Antonio Gates.

Assuming Johnson’s injury isn’t serious, should I make this deal?

Other QB is Brady and TE is Shiancoe.

So, in the Dynasty league which has a roster of 10 starting players, Hamlet put up 202.60 points. Starting 2 tight ends no less. His opponent put up the third highest points (currently, before MNF) and… not even close.

QB Philip Rivers 27.20
WR Chad Ochofuckface 28.80
WR Austin Collie 11.60
RB Adrian Peterson 20.90
RB Ryan Grant 21.60
TE Owen Daniels 21.80
W/T Vernon Davis 30.80
W/R Thomas Jones 17.90
K Ryan Longwell 5
DEF Cincinatti 17.00

I still have three guys left, and furt has two, but… yeah. We’re not catching him.

Oh well. I’m already booking my hotel rooms for the playoffs anyway.

Interesting. Why do you think this? My gut reaction is that an offense designed around running the ball at a much higher rate than passing the ball is going to lead to more opportunity for that running back. The only inconsistency in his scoring I think is going to be the re-emergence of Ricky Williams.

Those words are all in English, yet I’ve never seen them in that order before.

Because the Wildcat favors a much broader distribution of the ball than a traditional passing game. In a conventional offense the stud primary running back should be able to count on close to 25 touches every single game and the lions share of red zone touches. In the Wildcat the RBs and Slot players get a much more equitable distribution and most of those carries come at the expense of the traditional feature back. The Wildcat also essentially eliminates the screen and swing pass from the playbook, two plays that Ronnie Brown excels at.

Since Ronnie Brown acts as the Wildcat QB and is the teams scariest player you can be sure that as defenses start prepping for the Wildcat as a primary offense the word of the day will be “stop Ronnie Brown”. Look at Ronnie Brown’s per game averages in 2007 compared to the last two seasons with the Wildcat.

Brown was coming off ACL reconstruction surgery last year, so his numbers are hardly representative. Hell, it’s a miracle that he even rushed for a thousand yards.

His numbers this year are broadly similar to his 2007 numbers; his yards per carry may be down, but that’s because the 'Phins are an even less credible passing threat this season than in 2007, and because Samson Satele is gone. Anyway, his 2007 numbers were boosted a bit by the fact that he got hurt immediately after a series of 4 straight 100-yard games- in effect, at the high point of his season.

He’s also been more consistent this year- only two 100 yard games, but none where he was totally shut down, as he was in the first two games of '07.

I do agree that the Dolphins ought to be throwing him the ball on screens as much as possible, because he’s a dynamite short-area receiver, and it makes perfect sense with a rookie (basically) QB. It just ain’t a part of Dan Henning’s offense, though.

You said he’s the best all around running back in the league. Considering the thread I’m taking this in the context of fantasy scoring. I really like Ronnie Brown a lot, and I think the Wildcat will remove some of the deep valleys because he’s assured of a minimum number of touches. However it also removes the likelihood of consistently high scoring. Guys like AP, Steven Jackson and Turner will probably be more apt to produce repeated 15+ point days where Brown will probably be posting 10 point games with the occasional 20+ point day. He’s an elite fantasy back for sure and I’d love to have him, but I’d still rather have an A+ RB in a conventional offense than the Wildcat.
