Fantasy football general discussion

I meant in a non-fantasy context, but that figures into fantasy too. Obviously, his pass blocking (and passing!) skills are pretty useless in a fantasy context, but not his running and catching.

Miami still runs a conventional offense 60-70% of the time, so it’s not like Ronnie Brown doesn’t get any opportunities in that role.

It would be interesting to see what proportion of runs come out of that conventional offense. From what Dolphins games I’ve watched they tend to use the conventional offense primarily in obvious passing situations. I’d wager proportionally few of his rush attempts come from that 60%.
In other news, in my money league I’m down ~20 points with McNabb left to play on my team and Westbrook on my opponents team. Westbrook left the game with a concussion after scoring only 1.3 points. I need McNabb to have a 3 TD game and thus far he’s been really sloppy and useless in the red zone. And sacks are negative points…which he’s been taking a lot of.

If I lose that game I’m going to lose all my fantasy leagues (ETA: Oops, I did win the All-Pro league) this week and the Bears got mollywhopped. One of the worst weeks possible.

Hey, TD pass! Yay!

In one of my non-SDMB leagues, I went into tonight’s game tied with my opponent at 89 (ESPN, so whole numbers only) but holding the tiebreaker (bench points). Interestingly, we both had one player go tonight - each tight end. I had Celek and he had Cooley. Cooley bowed out early with an injury after getting 2 points, so I figured I had the game in the bag. Instead, Celek finishes with ZERO points despite playing the whole game.

Andy Reid is hereby invited to have horrible things done to him by a goat.

Something that has bugged me is that fantasy playoff seeding isn’t really meaningful. In the real NFL, having the top seed gets you home field advantage. But in FF, it only means that you play the lowest seed - which on average is probably better - but frequently due to matchups that week you’d be better off playing a higher seed anyway.

I think a cool way to handle this would be to allow the top seeds to actually pick which opponent they face that week to ensure they actually see the benefit of being a top seed and getting the most favorable matchup.

Or perhaps another method would be to add some bonus score to their final score, with maybe the top seed getting +10 points, second seed +5, etc.

What do you guys think?

Always bothered me too. Love the first idea, I think the second idea is probably not very good. I also love the potential drama when you pick someone to play and they beat you. Imagine the trash talking then! I’d love to try this in a league sometime. Is there any possible way to fake it in Yahoo?

I definitely like the first idea better. I don’t think there’s any way to actually implement it on yahoo, which is why I thought up the second idea, which could actually be implemented but is much less elegant.

The first idea is brilliant. The second idea is a nice stopgap. I think we’d have to adjust the actual bonus based on the league format; 5 points would make a bigger difference in the auction league, say, than in the relatively high-scoring dynasty league.

In my non-SDMB league this week, my 4 WR/RB slots scored a total of 3 points.

That’s right - 3 points.

So, who are these losers?

Hines Ward
Jacoby Jones
Pierre Thomas
Tashard Choice

I had to start Tashard because of byes, but Dallas did say he would see more chances this week. I should have known that they lie. Well, I get MJD back next week.

If it were an option I’d probably reseed each round of the playoffs based on total points for the season. That way head to head abnormalities get removed. Of course that means the best record wouldn’t be the top seed, but the head to head records would at least identify who makes the playoffs. Just not the seeding once you make it.

Sit or start question in a 0.5 PPR league:

Running Backs (Week 8 Opponent)
Matt Forte (CLE)
Knowshon Moreno (@BAL)
Beanie Wells (CAR)
Shonn Greene (MIA)
Brian Westbrook (NYG)

I need to pick two, although obviously Westbrook’s not really a consideration. I wish I could say Forte was a lock (I get a top four fantasy pick for the first time in years, and look what happens), but he’s still likely to outproduce most of my other guys.

I’m thinking Forte and Wells – anyone go with Moreno instead?

Given the PPR consideration, I’d take Moreno. Wells doesn’t see carries on a regular enough basis for comfort, and doesn’t catch many passes.

Thanks.

Second question: This is a super-shallow league (ten teams, five bench spots, no flex position), yet somehow my wide receivers are as follows:

Wes Welker (bye week)
Calvin Johnson (probably won’t play)
Steve Smith (NYG)
Jeremy Maclin

I need to fill three spots. Available free agents include:

Kevin Walter
Torry Holt
Eddie Royal
Michael Crabtree

Roy Williams (DAL) and Steve Breaston are on the waiver wire, available Sunday. (My waiver wire position is 9 of 10.)

Given my lack of depth at WR, is it worth dropping Wells, Greene, or gasp Westbrook to pick up another wideout? If so, who? (I’m thinking Crabtree.) My bench also includes my backup QB (Flacco), and that’s it.

Is Mike Sims-Walker still available? How 'bout Mike Wallace? If no to both, take Royal and Dennis Northcutt.

So, I was able to snag Shonn Greene and Beanie Wells on the waiver wire this week. I can only start one though. (My other starter will be Tomlinson.) Anyway, I’m wondering who to start. I’m leaning towards Greene, only because Arizona is a pass-first team with Warner at the helm, not to mention Hightower is still the primary back.

And I also realize Greene will have to share the load of the carries with Jones, but New York seems to be the better running team, over Arizona. Plus, Sanchez is averaging only, what, 200 yards a game? So, all of that is making me want to start Greene.

Anyway, anyone in a similar situation? Who would you start?

You don’t have any better options?

Sadly, no. :frowning:

My other RBs are Rashard Mendenhall, Laurence Maroney, and Clinton Portis, all of whom are on byes this week. In any other week, it’d be a no brainer and I’d just start LT and Mendenhall, but this week in particular, I’m kind of in a jam with most of my RBs on byes.

I would go with Wells. Greene still has yet to rush for 10+ yards against anyone other than the Raiders, remember… and I think they’ll keep Jones in the game a lot more against Miami since it will probably be close.

QB - Brady, Schaub
RB - C. Johnson, S. Jackson, Thomas, Mendenhall, Maroney, McCoy
WR - Evans, Driver, Sims-Walker, Marshall
TE - Shiancoe
K - Stover
DEF - San Diego

Give up Schaub and Driver. Get Gates and Andre Johnson in return. Now Brady’s on a bye so I’ll have to pick up Garrard to start for this week. I don’t think Johnson’s injury is that serious. Should I make the deal?

Absolutely. Unless Brady’s hurt, Schaub should never come off the bench anyway, and Andre is one of the top 5 WRs in the game.
