Actually, you should really be starting Schaub rather than Brady… and IMHO your running backs need more help than your wideouts. Deal Jackson and one of the other scrubs (or Brady and, say, Mendenhall) for a real #1 and Gates or Gonz or Dallas Clark.
We start 2 RB and 3 WR…you don’t think the additional WR depth would be more important?
Since Brady’s on a bye, I think he figured that one out.
It would be helpful, but right now your team is built backwards. You have six backs, none of whom are true #1s (Chris Johnson would be if the Titans weren’t down by 20 in every game), and 4 very good wideouts. Look at it this way: Lee Evans is your worst wide receiver!
Now, if you want to play the matchups with your running backs, you can, but I wouldn’t want to do it with that many guys. Package two of them and Brady or Schaub (your choice) and get yourself a Cedric Benson, DeAngelo Williams, Michael Turner or AP, top-5 TE and a #3 wideout and #2 QB.
Then sit back and enjoy your championship.
No, I mean in general. Schaub has (slightly) more touchdowns and yards, and has been much more consistent. Plus, Brady’s numbers are going to tail off slightly as the weather worsens.
I wouldn’t count on it. He put up 5 TDs in one quarter of a snowstorm. New England doesn’t have much of a running game, he’s going to get the numbers. I know you’re infatuated with Schaub this year. Regardless, the advice here should be “trade one of your QBs for the best upgrade you can get”. Looking at the end of the season we have:
Week 12: Brady @ Saints; Schaub v. Colts Push. Both defenses are good, both oppositing offenses are monsters, both will be shootouts.
Week 13: Brady @ Dolphins; Schaub @ Jaguars Schaub’s the clear winner here. The Dolphins aren’t good, but the Jaguars are terrible.
Week 14: Brady v. Panthers; Schaub v. Seahawks Schaub’s the clear winner here. The Panthers are (currently) the best passing defense in the league.
Week 15: Brady @ Bills; Schaub @ Rams Schaub’s the clear winner here.
Week 16: Brady v. Jaguars; Schaub @ Dolphins Brady has the best Championship week matchup, but Schaub might still be playing for the playoffs while Brady could be pulled in the second half.
Winner: I honestly don’t know. Schaub wins most of the weeks, but if you don’t win the Championship, the plaque for second place is hanging in the ladies bathroom.
I’m not really that into Schaub. I knew he wouldn’t be horrible, but I didn’t know he was going to put up top-3 numbers. Plus, I only actually drafted him in one of my 5 leagues - I traded for him in one, and had him as a keeper in another.
However, his remaining schedule is boffo, as you rightly note, and you can probably get more for Brady.
I guess if the question is just “should I make this trade or none at all” rather than “should I shop around” then the answer is an unqualified yes.
I just traded Cedric Benson and Jerricho Cotchery for Brandon Jacobs and Steve Smith, for what it’s worth.
Mason/Turner/Gonzalez/Cutler for Brady/Jackson/Mendenhall?
I think that fits what you laid out a few posts ago.
Money.
Why Cutler? Let him figure out who to drop - because you sure don’t need him.
Good point. I’ll let him know that he has the option.
Thanks for the help Munch and RNATB.
He needs a second quarterback. Cutler’s serviceable.
Cutler’s better than serviceable and Schaub is still a fragile guy. Getting a backup who you know will be the guy is crucial if you give away Brady who’s on a major upswing.
What to do with Steve Slaton? He was benched in the first quarter after he fumbled the ball during a 1 yard carry. Moats took over and simply exploded - 3 TDs on a combined yardage of 151 yards. Granted, it was against a horrible Buffalo run defense, but nonetheless, those are not numbers to merely gloss over.
This begs the question, is Slaton worth keeping? An even bigger question would be, should Moats be added, since he’s most likely available as a free agent?
I have room on my bench, so I’ve gone ahead and snatched up Moats. I’m going to wait and see how things play out the rest of the week with Houston.
Going into week 9, Indianapolis isn’t exactly lighting things up with their run defense either, so if Moats turns out to be Houston’s #1 guy, he should have another big game.
Moats should certainly be added, but I’m pretty sure Slaton will have his job back this week. Rushing effectively against Buffalo is like taking candy from a baby with no hands.
Don’t be surprised to see Moats become the new goal-line guy, though.
I (potentially) lost in 2 leagues because of the stupid Slaton thing. If Moats can run for 130/3 I’d expect at least the same of Slaton and that would put me in a good position in both leagues. Instead he posted .1 points and I got my ass kicked. Grr.
In the big league and dynasty league I had the privilege of facing two teams that both had records of 1-6. And I lost to both of them. Ouch.
In the auction league, I am now 7-1. Weird coincidence: The first game of the week I lost to Omni by less than a point. Since then I am 7-0. And he is 0-7. My only loss came from the guy who can’t beat anyone else, and his only victory was over the guy who beat everyone else.
The Auction League is a complete abortion for me this season. Just about every one on that team has totally under performed. I used a different tactic in that league, not targeting players and letting things come to me at most positions and targeting just a couple middle tier guys who I expected to make a leap. Very little fell to me and none of those guys really made the leap, in fact some regressed from even being middle tier.
Weirdly, I thought my auction league team was the weakest of my three SDMB league rosters, and yet I’m just eight points out of second place.
Meanwhile, my HHM team has gone from dominant to mediocre more or less overnight, although I’m still the fourth-highest team in actual scoring.
New yahoo big board out today.
Pierre Thomas ahead of Brees and Manning? Big Boards are weird…
