Yeah, I could be 0-1377 and that trade wouldn’t make sense. Hell, Charles wasn’t even the starter going into this week.
Operating under my flawed assumption that Johnson wasn’t keeper eligible, it makes sense. I have no idea what Charles’ starter status has to do with his keeper potential (and he was the starter going into this last week.)
No he wasn’t. Haley started Kolby Smith and replaced him early, when Charles had success he stayed in. Haley has been refusing to commit to a starter since LJ was dumped. It’s uncertain who’ll be getting the love week-to-week, it’ll very likely be a platoon with the hot-hand getting the work.
I’m not seeing how it does make sense. Johnson is probably one of the top 3 players in the league for the balance of this season. Even factoring in Charles keeper potential there’s no way it offsets one of the best scoring players in all of fantasy this season. You’d be asking someone to punt the rest of this season and set you up in exchange for maybe a 50-50 chance that Charles retains the starting job come the start of next season on a crappy team that can’t run the ball. Come on…
Going on my assumption again, “punting” isn’t very accurate, as the playoff chances of 4th and 19 (it wasn’t Mundi - I clicked on Johnson instead of DeAngelo Williams) didn’t look great. But now that the standings have been updated, he’s sitting at 7th, a game out of the playoffs. So…okay - it would be a bit of punting. I don’t have a TON of faith in Charles being a stud next year - but I do expect him to be worth a keeper.
He was drafted in the 7th round. I doubt much whether his ADP next season will make him a good keeper value in the 5th round under any circumstances. I mean, if he averages 100 yards and a score in the remaining games, then sure - but we all know he won’t.
Looks like we have a Chris Johnson vs Mojo matchup this week. A possible playoff preview, though with this many people we can’t afford to coast in yet. Hopefully the 9ers get more than 1.55 points, though against the sack happy Packers, I don’t see how they couldn’t.
So, there was a slew of RB injuries this week, and their replacements did fairly well. I need some help at the RB position, and could use some advice as far as who to pick up on waivers.
Brian Westbrook looks to be out for awhile, possibly the remainder of the season. McCoy has looked pretty decent as his replacement, but Philly seems to be a pass first, run second team, so I’m not totally sold on him.
Clinton Portis is pretty much in the same boat as Westbrook, and his replacement, Ladell Betts, has been solid the last couple of weeks, granted this week was against Kansas City, but still.
Julius Jones is reportedly out for the rest of the season, and Justin Forsett took over. He had a great game against Arizona, but his matchup against Minnesota on Sunday kind of worries me.
Michael Turner also looks to be out for awhile, and Jason Snelling took over the starting role. He also had a great game against Carolina, but it looks like Norwood is returning on Sunday, so he may have to share the load with him.
Then there’s Jamaal Charles taking over for Larry Johnson. He had a huge game, but it comes with an asterisk, as it was against Oakland. He goes up against Pittsburgh in week 11 and that doesn’t look good.
There’s also Beanie Wells, but he’s already been picked up.
Anyway, for these replacement RBs, who do think has the best outlook for the remainder of the season?
You forgot Bernard Scott, who’ll probably get the bulk of the carries for the Bengals if Cedric Benson misses significant time.
I think Snelling will do best out of these guys. He’s played brilliantly in his few opportunities in relief of Turner, and the Falcons have an excellent run-blocking line. He actually reminds me a lot of Turner when he was LT’s backup - a bruiser who isn’t going to win many footraces but will produce some big plays just by running through tackles.
Still more trade offers for Schaub :). I was offered this today:
I give up Schaub, Ricky Williams, Antonio Gates
I get back McNabb, Percy Harvin, Dallas Clark
The QB doesn’t matter too much, since I have Peyton. My current lineup is:
QB P Manning
WR Ochocinco
RB Peterson
TE Gates
W/T Heath Miller
W/R Ricky Williams
W/R S Jackson
Bench Roy Williams, Hightower, Jacoby Jones, Knox, Schaub
So after the trade my lineup would be
QB P Manning
WR Ochocinco
RB Peterson
TE Clark
W/T Harvin
W/R Hightower
W/R S Jackson
Bench Roy Williams, Heath Miller, Jacoby Jones, Knox, McNabb
So, it boils down to: Clark, Harvin, Hightower vs Gates, Miller, Williams
I don’t know why you’d do that. Gates > Clark is not a tremendous step up, but Williams > Harvin is definitely a tremendous step down, especially if Ronnie Brown misses more than one game.
Plus, he’d be giving his opponent an upgrade at QB. It’s a net loss.
I don’t think I’ll accept the trade, but the reason I’d consider it is that I’m weak in WR. So it’s not really just Ricky vs Harvin, because I have Hightower on my bench. I currently have nobody strong for the WR/TE spot, so I’ve been playing guys like Miller and Knox. The Yahoo projections (for whatever they’re worth) for week 11 are
Gates 8 vs Clark 10
Miller 7 (or Knox 7) vs Harvin 9
Williams 13 vs Hightower 10
So if you buy those projections I’m a point better after the trade, at least for this week.
Cutler (vs. Eagles), Ryan (vs. Giants), Flacco (vs. Colts)…which 1 do I start this week?
Welker, Driver, Calvin Johnson, DeSean Jackson, Mike Sims-Walker…which 3 do I start?
WR: Reggie Wayne, Hines Ward, Devin Hester, Percy Harvin
RB: LaDainian Tomlinson, Rashard Mendenhall, Cedric Benson, Steven Jackson, Joseph Addai
3 WR slots, 2 RB, and one flex.
I know I start Wayne, Ward, Jackson, and Mendenhall. Those are given.
Currently, I’m going with Harvin and LT in the last two slots. I don’t really want to count on Benson, as even if he’s able to start, I think they might let him rest vs Oakland. Addai has been solid, but the finger injury might get aggravated, and LT might be starting to click. Hester and Harvin seem like they’re neck and neck in terms of ability, but I like Harvin’s chances against the Seattle D better than Hester’s against the Eagles.
Am I making the right choices?
Williams’ value just went up exponentially - the Dolphins just placed Ronnie Brown on IR. Even ignoring that little nugget, I wouldn’t be comfortable with Hightower as anything more than a flex or #3 option. Start Knox this week, by the way.
Schaub’s remaining schedule is Titans, Colts, Jaguars, Seahawks, Rams, Dolphins, Pats… and your league presumably won’t play in Week 17 anyway. You’d be nuts to trade him under almost any circumstance- and McNabb’s remaining schedule is okay at best.
Cutler. The Eagles’ corners are banged up, and it really showed last week. The Eagles were able to shut down Vincent Jackson but only by giving up huge plays to everyone else.
Welker ought to benefit from playing the Jets; Darrelle Revis blankets the other team’s #1 but Lito Sheppard has been playing poorly. Sims-Walker has an awful matchup. Jackson has a very good one, as does Megatron.
I’d go Welker, Jackson, Megatron.
If Benson is playing, there’s no way you can sit him. Out of Harvin and Hester I’ll take Harvin if your league counts return yardage; otherwise go with Hester. I think Cutler has a big game this week.
If Benson is out, go with LT. He’ll have more opportunities than Addai, especially if Chris Simms is “quarterbacking” the Broncos.
Yeah, with Ronnie Brown gone this trade makes no sense. As far as Schaub goes, even with that schedule I don’t see starting him over Peyton, so his value on my team is as a backup in case something happens to Manning. This is a situation where it should be possible to set up a trade that benefits both sides, since Schaub would be worth more to some other teams than he is on mine. For example, it might make sense to just trade Schaub straight for a top WR.
I keep forgetting you also have Manning - but yes, I think trading Schaub for a Colston or Moss is the best idea.
Heard on Mike and Mike this morning that 10,000 owners on ESPN’s site alone lost due to the kneeldown. Among the legion of owners who lost was Maurice Jones-Drew, who owns himself in his fantasy league and lost by 5 points.
Well, on the plus side, 10,000 happy people won due to the kneeldown!
I think I once lost a game where I was leading by a small fraction of the point, but my QB did some kneel downs at the end that counted as negative rushing yardage and it lost it for me. Or maybe that happened to someone else. It was a long time ago…
Yup. It’d steer away from Colston - too many targets in NO. Wayne, Moss, Fitzgerald would be great, if slight reaches. Maybe Welker if you’re not getting any bites?
