In my non-SDMB FF league, Jake Delhome is my QB. He’s got a thumb injury and it’s unknown if he’ll play this week. Pennington is my other QB, and he’s out, so I figured I’d pick up an emergency QB. Amongst likely starters, these are my choices: Bledsoe, McCown, Ramsey or Collins. The other option is to pick up Peete, since he’ll replace Jake if he can’t go, but it’s not like he’ll be plugging into the Colts offense or anything. Bledsoe plays St Louis, McCown Carolina, Ramsey Philly and Collins San Diego. Peete would be facing the Cardinals. Anyone got any advice?
Oh, Kelly Holcomb is available too. Is Garcia’s benching a permanent one?
Bledsoe is good for fantasy points, even though he can’t seem to win games. Collins at San Diego has some promise, but he throws too many INTs. Quincy Carter has the cachet of being a replacement for one you already have, and his receivers are good- maybe worth a shot. Holcomb can move the Browns, but as soon as he falters he will be out again.
I don’t know enough about Ransey and McCown to assess them.
With that in mind, Carter may be the best bet. YMMV, consider the source…
Is David Gerrard available? He may be aviable play as Jacksonville has been doing alright (compared to OAK, WAS, CAR, etc.) Since Leftwich went down only a few weeks ago no one may have noticed Gerrard. If he isn’t available, I like Carter as a fill-in QB.
Weirddave, can you give us your scoring system for QBs?
In one of my main leagues, I have Bledsoe on the bench – and he scores horrendously because there are heavy penalties for INTs and sacks. I hesitate recommending him, but maybe he’d work in your scoring system.
Garrard played quite well last week … if available, I’d give him consideration.
I think David Garrard would be your man for this weekend. It doesn’t look like Delhomme is going to miss any more than one game, if any.
Garrard won’t make much of a long-term solution, should you need it, because it’s highly likely Leftwich comes back for week 12. But Garrard chips in nice rushing yardage and is a reasonably productive passer (although Jax ran so well last week that Del Rio pulled the reins a tad on the passing game) – he could do well for you in a pinch against the sagging Titans.
If you find you need someone for several weeks (and I don’t see you in that boat), then Patrick Ramsey is the guy – though not without a caveat. His short term schedule is brutal – two games against the Eagles and one against the Steelers all in the next four weeks. But after that stretch, Ramsey faces some pass-defense cupcakes during FF playoff time (Niners, Cowboys, Vikings).
Ramsey has been interception-prone in his two appearances this season. He also takes a lot of sacks (or did last year. and 3 last week)
David Garrard can run the ball. I think he had 40 or 50 yards rushing last week. I guarantee you this man will eventually be the starting quarterback somewhere.
Krenzel: Don’t know much about this guy, but I think it’s all smoke and mirrors.
Bledsoe: All done. Will be replaced by JP Losman soon.
Kerry Collins: Am I the only one who just can buy that this guy is a good quarterback? I don’t know, man. I just don’t get it.
Carter: Never showed me much in Dallas.
McCown: Is this a keeper league? He might be a great pickup to hold onto until next year. This year: same old Cardinals.
My choice? David Garrard. I don’t suppose Drew Brees is still around?
