I started this thread to see if there is enough interest among the SDMB for ongoing fantasy hockey threads. Also, there used to be a SDMB fantasy league. Is there any interest in setting one up for this upcoming season?
I’d be interested. I’ve never done an internet hockey league before. Just local ones with friends. It might be interesting to see people over-reaching for players who aren’t Red Wings for once.

I’ve been roped into participating in a fantasy league with friends…is two much more work than one? I’m interested, but I’ve never done it before and I don’t want to embarrass myself completely twice!!
I’d be willing to be the commissioner if no one else wants to. I’d like to use an auction draft if that is acceptable. All would be welcome, regardless of skill level.

Can you start with a quick post explaining how it would work? What’s an auction draft? There seems to be a ton of variations on fantasy leagues, so getting the rules and “house rules” explained before anything “official” happens will help us [del]losers[/del]newbies start on a more-or-less level [del]playing field[/del]sheet of ice!
What would be the management obligation? Playing something that can roll along with daily tweaking might be a bit much with a bunch of football leagues being run, too. Weekly sets and leaving a bit to chance, that’s more manageable.
I usually set my lineups twice a week. You really only have to tweak the lineup on the weekend. During the week, there are enough teams off each day that you basically set a lineup based on which team is playing. I’d only play in leagues which don’t have constant streaming of players. I’m not going to pick up a 4th line guy just to play some random game in November.

I’m going to try for the first weekend in October. I’m in Arizona (Pacific time) I’d like a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, but open to all input
An auction draft is one where you bid a certain dollar amount on a player. You’re given a budget of $200 and you bid on players. It is different from the traditional snake draft where you get a random draft order and then you pick players in that order. With an auction, everyone has a chance at every player. There won’t be any house rules.
League created! I made it a fairly deep league so you’ll almost always have players in action every day. 4 centers, 2 LW, 2 RW, 2 Wingers (either), 2 Forwards (C/LW/RW), 4 Defensemen, and 2 goalies. 2 IR spots and ten on the bench. So you’ll be owning quite a few NHL players.

I can’t draft at that time - I’m going to a Hamilton Bulldogs preseason game (game starts at 7!). Sunday the 2nd would work (just have to ensure I can mooch the internet off a friend on Sunday). Otherwise, weekday evenings are fine!
I can move the draft to basically any time, with no basketball season, hockey pretty much can pick any day any time. I did have to pick a draft time to set up the league. I’d be free anytime after 12 noon Pacific time on Sunday Oct. 2
Afternoon on Sunday should work for me at least…the plan is to be majorly drunk after the hockey game, taxi home with friends to the FIL’s place, then go to a friend’s place the next morning and watch NFL Sunday Ticket all day. I’m sure I can bogart his internet during that time.
