having been here awhile, I decided to learn the ropes of more sophisticated posting.
I need to learn how to link.
I went to FAQ and clicked on the vB wahtever to learn how–it takes me to the smiley page, repeatedly. Sadly, I know all about smileys and don’t need a tutorial.
So, I hate to waste your time, but how does one add a link to a post?
Thanks and I love this bb.
{url=blahblahblah-dot-com} cutename {/url}
With [ and ] instead of { and }, and cute name = the word or phrase you want highlighted to be the linking connection.
God help me; I am so stupid.
So, I put a bracket before and after the cute name I want to give my post?
{url} blahblahblah.com}cutename{/url}, not {url}blahblahblah.comcutename{/url}
switch out parantheses for brackets?
It is really that easy?
:smack:
Open brackets, url=, address, close brackets, cute name, open brackets, backslash, url, close brackets
[ url = address ] cute name [ / url ] (but delete the extra spaces)
Just try to use this knowlege for good and not for evil, 'kay?
It’s working, but you have to dig a bit. When I click on the FAQ link, I get a page that includes a link titled “reading and posting messages”. Clicking on that link gets me to a list of links on that topic. The first link is titled “Are there any special codes/tags I can use to markup my posts?” Clicking on that gives a short explanation that ends with the phrase, “For more information about vB code, click here.” Clicking there gets you to a list of all vB codes.
Alternatively, at the bottom of every page there should be a section titled “posting rules”. If there’s nothing under it, click on the double down-pointing arrowheads just to the right of it to expand the section.
Within the section is a line that should say “vB code is on”. Click on the link given there to the same list of vB codes.
I’d like to point out a relatively new feature. It’s a way to link to a specific post that’s easier than that described in one of the sticky FAQ theads: the “post=” vB code.
Oh, and the meta-hint: If you see something in a post that looks cool, click on the “reply” button in that post to see how it was done. This works for everything except something in a “quote” box in the post.
