Not really sure where to put this, it’s part gaming, part questions, and part rant.
Has anyone else here dealt with this “Never Settle” coupon with Free Far Cry 3 and 20% off MOH: Warfighter? If so, does this sound familiar to you?
I recently upgraded to a 7850 graphics card. I was happy to see that it came with a coupon to get Far Cry 3 for free, particularly since I can seldom afford to buy a game at full price at release. I’ve heard good things about Far Cry 3 and I thought it would be a great way to enjoy my new card. Sadly, I can’t get it to work.
The ‘coupon’ is a big black piece of cardstock, something like 5" x 7". You scrape off the silvery, scratch-ticket coating, then go register an account on the Ubisoft website. They accept that code, and send me a new code via email. Why they needed to introduce a second code to the process at this point I don’t know.
I go to buy the game from their site, enter the new code from my email, the price goes to $0 in the basket, and I complete the purchase. I wait a few days until it’s released in the USA (no pre-downloading & waiting for activation like Steam), and I download files that come to almost 9 gigs. Then, I install the game. It installs. I go to run the game, and they want a THIRD code, the Activation code. That’s weird enough, but they really needed to send me that third code if they’re gonna require it.
I’ve already set up an account with them and entered 2 unique codes just to get the files downloaded, now they want a third code that I never received? I sent them an email yesterday, with no response. I sent a second email to their support a few hours ago, no response yet, and I suspect I won’t get one until Monday at the earliest. I’ve checked my spam & trash folders. Nada. I have, of course, carefully and repeatedly tried the 2 different codes I had to use previously in the process. Also nada.
I should’ve sold the coupon and ponied up the difference in price to buy it off Steam. I already have it, and I have Origin’s digital distribution installed to play the Battlefield series. Now I’ve got to use Uplay to play Far Cry 3, and the whole process has been unnecessarily convoluted, and thus far, unsuccessful. THREE unique codes to install and play one game?
I’ll welcome any suggestions or comments, if anyone has them. I’m just pissed that things have to be so convoluted. I still can’t get past the need for three unique codes.
