There are currently 3 threads in Cafe Society for the show Fargo.
That is one thread for each episode - minus one thread for one of the episodes - there have been 4 episodes so far. I can’t find any thread for E02.
I would like to suggest that maybe we could combine them into a single thread?
The reason I ask is that twice now I have made a post into the wrong thread and I made one post that seemed to disappear - could have easily been my fault.
The number of posts per episode seema very low compared to other shows like “The Americans”. So far each thread has had less than 100 posts.
I’m suggesting this - not because I care about the number of posts - but just because it’s so easy to post into the wrong thread - especially if you don’t realize there is one thread for each episode. I do admit that I am more suseptible to making these kinds of careless mistakes than most people.
I think most people who post in one of these threads are fairly new to the show and just post in a thread once they see the title “Fargo”.
I could be wrong and it is up to the mods to decide how best to handle this. I just wanted to express my opinion and I thank you all.
Spoiler if you want to see some Kiss Ass
P.S. I also want to say as an aside that I finally understand the reason for waiting 30 seconds before cutting off people from editing new posts. At first I didn’t like that. But after much experience (for me), I finally understand it and think it is a very wise thing.
It’s up to the posters, and there’s no rule here. If a show has a lot of fans and a lot of posts, then someone will usually start a new thread for each episode. For reality shows or shows that don’t get as much discussion, there might be one thread for the whole season. If we combined all the Fargo discussions the thread would be about five pages, which isn’t too bad. Do other fans want that?
I’d rather a new thread for each episode, it’s easier to read, it’s easier for people that are playing catch up and it just makes more sense. Especially since we’re seeing enough posts per episode. If it was one big thread for the season it would be a mess of several hundred posts and no one knowing what episode anyone was talking about.
I don’t think it’s fair to ask everyone to post to one thread just because you weren’t paying attention to the thread title. As I said in the other post, just delete your post within your edit window or ask a mod to move it.
I think just about everyone here has posted to a wrong thread at some point or another.
Your wish is my command. Well, not really. But the moderator has said that the decision is up to the fans and so I expect they will put your wishes into practice. Thanks for being so polite about it.
It really is up to the fans. Personally, I like threads for each episode, you’re more then welcome to start a season long thread and see which one takes off. This wouldn’t be the first show to have the fans hem and haw over which way to go about discussing it.
Thank you. I’ll be happy if the fans express their opinions in this forum or in the existing threads and then for the moderators to decide how to handle things.
It isn’t really a moderator decision. Maybe if one person was starting every thread, and posting 90% of the posts to that thread, the mods might give a little “tsk, tsk”, but it doesn’t seem as if that’s the case here. If popular demand calls for a separate thread for each episode, then so be it.
Charlie, just follow this simple two step flowchart I came up with:
Do I want to post about an episode of Fargo?
If No: Do nothing
If Yes: Go to Cafe Society to find the most recent Fargo thread.
Is the thread I found the appropriate one for the episode I just watched?
If No: Keep looking! It’ll be there somewhere (or will be soon).
If Yes: Post away, tell us all your favorite things about the show or what you hated. Go nuts!
If you want to find one of your own posts go to your profile click on “View your “About Me” as seen by everyone else” then click on “posts by Charley Wayne”.
No support here. Any show popular enough to get fans to post on it weekly needs a separate thread for each episode. Which are always clear as to date, title, and sometimes episode number. How do you manage to get that wrong?
People can choose to disagree on how things go, if we all thought the same it would be a boring world.
However, you must be civil when you disagree with someone – they are entitled to reasonably ask questions and discuss things. You are still free to disagree but not overly take them to task over it. If you absolutely must go there, About This Message Board is not the forum to post such strongly opposing views; that’s what The BBQ Pit is for. You are free to open a thread there and slam away. (Within limits, of course, check the forum for details.)
I think most ongoing series have a thread per episode, don’t they?
Going through the first page of CS, series with episode threads:
Fargo
Agents of SHIELD
Big Bang Theory
Modern Family
Game of Thrones no-spoiler threads
Mad Men
24 (I think? There’s 2 episodes in the thread, but earlier seasons had one or two threads like that, then each episode having its own.)
Ongoing season-or-series-long discussion threads:
Orphan Black
Jim Henson’s Creature Shop
Game of Thrones spoiler-friendly thread
The Americans
So, yeah…more discussions are episode-by-episode, and they tend to be the more popular shows (or in GoT’s case, the more popular discussion rule-set).
Nashville and Grimm are both season-long threads. Among reality competitions, Survivor and The Amazing Race both get new threads every week, Dancing with the Stars and Project Runway don’t.
It really boils down to the preference of the fans of the particular show.
I’ve always really appreciated it when the OP includes a link to the new episode thread at the end of the previous thread. I am usually subscribed to the current episode thread, but then have to hunt for newest thread. It also helps you to realize there is a new thread and not post in the old one. Linking to the new thread is particularly helpful when I’m catching up on a series and the threads aren’t really new (like when I binged watched Breaking Bad, I had to search for each thread separately).
When we were doing the Lost threads, we always included a full index of all the threads for all the episodes in the OP. If you set up the OPs in Word or something similar, it’s no big deal to add the new link each week.
That’s the thread! It was incredibly helpful. But those threads that simply added a link in the last thread saying “new episode over here” were much appreciated.
I’m a New Posts guy and sometimes a thread I’m looking for isn’t on the first page, so when a new episode airs I just go to Cafe Society, hit Ctrl-F and search for the show (whatever show it may be). The front page of CS usually has a few days of posts on it. If it’s not there, I’ll start the thread or check back later or the next day for it.
Anyways, Ctrl-F and just brute force search for a thread is sometimes easier than trying to use the board’s built in search function.
