Fargo S1E6 [Open spoilers]

Ok, this is going to sound very…I don’t know…but in a show full of violence and gore what bothered me was the tail of that one fish flapping on the ground for a few seconds (therefore they were alive when they fell out of the sky). It actually pulled me out of the story for a moment, and made me think, “There better be a ‘no fish were harmed in the making of this show’ disclaimer in the credits!”

Animatronics. Well, one animatronic fish amongst a see of rubber fish.

Oh, I knew/know it wasn’t real: I’m just laughing at myself because nothing else in the show has made me bat an eye, but that one flapping fin made me go “awwww!”

I think he was smiling because he had just (presumably) gotten away with slipping his police watch, escaping the hospital, framing his brother, and returning to his hospital room undetected.

Does Chaz know that it was a hammer that killed Lester’s wife? That is, have the police released that information, and/or did Lester disclose it to his brother? I can’t recall anything definite on either of these points.

Funny: I had the same reaction to that flapping fish (down to the comforting thought that it was done via fakery–one rubber fish had a mechanism inside and the rest were just empty rubber fish).

The police don’t know it was a hammer–they only know it was a blunt object of some kind. But if Chaz opens the cabinet he is going to know it doesn’t belong there and when he sees the picture of the murdered woman it should be obvious that the hammer was the murder weapon and this was a frame.

There’s an echo in here, apparently.

I don’t have any trouble with the fish - frogs rain down in the Book of Exodus, and there are many recent examples of fish raining down having been caught in a whirlwind or mini-tornado. In fact, I think most of this hour needs a biblical schollar, inc. the thing with his brother, as well as his brothers son.

There sure is enough to chew on. Fascinating stuff.

Not just that, but since Lester dropped it out of the bag without even touching it*, there’s probably still hair on it. IMO, he should have taken the hair off of it, but left just enough blood for cops to notice it and the forensics team to match it.

*Mind you, there’s no reason why Lester’s fingerprints can’t be on the hammer.

On why he’d try to frame Chaz: Chaz just had a serious “I’m done with you” talk at the hospital, and said, “You’ve got to give them someone.” Meaning Malvo, of course, but Lester (stupider than a post) is taking it as frame Chaz. Of course the frame is full of holes, it’s dreamt up by Lester. But there’s still a good chance the police chief will buy it, because if there’s anyone stupider than Lester, he’s it.

I’m really concerned about them bumping on Molly, she’s the only reasonably competent human being in the show.

I don’t quite understand why Malvo went to such elaborate lengths to have the gym-guy killed. Malvo himself could have just offed him, any ol’ time. Seemed like a huge fancy set-up, for no good reason.

Mrs Haven and I gotta watch the old FARGO movie again. Was the dept-store magnet waiting in the same parking lot that was a location in the movie?

I don’t think the biblical stuff needs an expert, it’s pretty obvious. It doesn’t need to follow Exodus precisely, but water-to-blood was the first plagues. There are a number of biblical themes in the show, but they don’t take biblical expertise. Sibling rivalry, sure. A vicious and evil guy (named Mal-vo, just in case you don’t catch on) with a goatee who does nasty things just for spite. It’s nicely done, but not real subtle.

Molly still has the romance arc - no way has that been set up to end now. In fact, I think it serves the romance arc.

I thought gym guys death wasn’t about gym guy, it seemed like more of Malvo playing with peoples decisions/choices - this time the police who actually stood in front of the guys gun before deciding to shoot him.

Really liked the Invisible Man bed swapping skit.

He was about to pick up the money. The setup with Bronzer Man was to make the police too busy to respond if Stavros called them.

I don’t know anything about The Bible but even I’ve heard of:

water into wine/blood (the shower)
a plague of locusts (in the supermarket)
raining weird shit

Right, Malvo specifically says something about keeping the police busy. It did get a lot of the cops over there. I’m sure he could have thought of another plan to keep the cops busy, but I’m sure he also enjoyed the sadistic nature of it.

I wonder what Malvo is going to do now that Stavros decided to bury the money instead of paying. And of course what he’s going to do with the other henchman after him. I can’t wait until the next episode.

water into blood is a reference to the first plague upon the Egyptians.

I wonder if Gus will attempt to cover up his accidental shooting of Molly (blaming it on Malvo), drawing him into the endless mess.

I don’t think that will happen, Gus is super-straight and can’t lie convincingly.

I kind of forgot this but Lestor’s nephew is autistic?

I don’t know the biblical ref about Mal-vo, can anyone help?

The storm white out was really interesting. Need to dwell on that…

Latin reference. Mal is bad, vo is “I”
