Speaking of which, think we’ll get a wood chipper moment this season?
It’s possible.
Pretty good episode, all in all, although the sfx of the people in the blizzard looked fake to me. Too gray/glossy, somehow. And how did the two Fargo hitmen find Malvo in all that snow?
I loved how the supermarket king got the garage attendant to open the gate without paying - saying something like: “Do you go to church? Then open the gate, goddamit - the Lord Almighty commands it!” Much better than shooting the guy, as happened in the movie Fargo.
I slowed that down and re-watched it; I still couldn’t tell. The light is so blue it’s impossible to see whether it’s blood or her jacket. I want to say the latter though, because of the shape. there’s the hint of a point where the bottom of the zipper would be.
Yes, Joey P. there are are blizzards in Virginia. The MidWest does not have a monopoly on bad winter weather, you just get it first and more often.
I also think he’s next on Malvo’s “Arya List.”
Another point in favor of the Jacket Theory is that blood wouldn’t pool up on top of the snow the way it would on top of a floor or other hard surface.
(I’m no expert, but I’d guess that because of the relatively porous nature of the snow, most of the blood would remain under the body, instead of spreading out (to match the appearance of that ‘shape’ (jacket or whatever) seen next to Molly in the episode.))
Wasn’t there a promo scene early on of Numbers shooting a guy through a bag of snack food? Did I miss or forget that scene? If Numbers is dead (which seems most likely), he’s not going to snackshooting anybody.
That wasn’t numbers - that was Malvo - and to my knowledge/recollection - it hasn’t happened yet.
This writer has no intention of playing with form. Honestly folks, from the pov of dramatic structure, she is not and cannot be dead.
There is enough here already anyway; will the Church get the blackmail money, will the new bad guys get the old bad guy, or vice versa, will the good odd couple get the weird little guy, or vice versa, will the guy get the gal, or vice versa (yah!).
For what it is worth the actress who plays Molly is credited at IMDB with the next four episodes. So she either survives or is in flashbacks.
This was my favorite episode of the whole show by a long ways: action packed, gory goodness. The chorale music during the whole gym trainer murder scene was absolute genius. There was a connection between the visuals and the soundtrack in my mind that I didn’t quite understand when I was watching the scene, but looking back I realize the light streaming in through the bullet holes in the door mirrored the way light pours into church windows . . .
I agree Molly’s not dead. There’s definitely a romantic subplot with her and Grimly, plus I’m hoping for a scene where she ends up with a hospital bed right next to Lester (or next to the bandaged guy, who could tell her about Lester).
I wonder how Wrench fared in the snowstorm - can’t be easy being deaf in a whiteout. I was mentally yelling at everyone during the fight to just stay low to the ground in the snow (and Grimly, I know you’re not the brightest crayon in the box, but why on EARTH did you shoot?!).
Lester’s two biggest issues right now are the bandaged patient and his nephew. Oh, and Molly. And Wrench. And the other cops. And - well, I guess he’s got a lot of problems . . .
Seriously. This incident makes it difficult to go on seeing him as a sympathetic character (and potential partner for Molly, assuming that she survived).
I hope Molly is ok but she immediately dropped like a sack of rocks without even a whimper, that didn’t look like someone getting knocked out from taking a hit to a bullet proof vest. It looked like a switch being turned off.
to be fair, Molly kinda has to go down like a sack of rocks.
The theme of different ways of killing continues; this week: cut throat, volley of police fire.
It could well be that he shot past her to the guy who had just hit her in the vest. If she’d been hit in the vest from behind I reckon it might look like that. . .
I vaguely remember a scene like that too from seeing the promos. They were in a gas station or something like that. They’ve done flashbacks on the show- Malvo dragging that guy from his office, Lester buying socks and a shotgun, so Numbers could show up again in flashback.
FWIW, even if she is dead (no idea one way or the other yet) and not in the rest of the show, it’s very possible that it’s in her contract that her name appears in the credits for all the episodes. Or they did it so people can’t figure out what’s going on by checking IMDB.
Unless Gus hit a bad buy and Molly laying in the snow has nothing to do Gus discharging his weapon.
I do hope that’s the case.
If Gus accidentally shot Molly, the guilt of that added to the guilt of having let Malvo go on the night of the shootings at Lester’s, would make him…interesting to the writers.
So from the showrunners’ point of view, it could go either way.
It didn’t look like anything to me. She was lost in the blizzard.
Seems to me that Chaz’s natural reaction if he discovers the hammer is to grab it to look at it. That would put his fingerprints on it, further indicating his guilt.
My concern about that was that, once the shooting stopped, it would be easy to see that Don wasn’t doing that of his own free will. The tape would be obvious.
Didn’t pay that much attention, but “Gustavson Parking” was a nice touch, as was the newscaster calling her co-anchor “Norm,” which was Marge’s husband’s name in the film.
The parking garage where Carl shot Gustavson was identified in the movie as the top level of the Radisson but was actually shot in a different location. From Wikipedia:
The TV series is shot in and around Calgary, so it was almost certainly a different location.
There was also a “Norm’s Pizza” sign in the background of a scene in the first episode.
