Fargo S1E8 [Open spoilers]

Regarding the price of postage changing…

When the movie took place, yes, that point came up. But as someone else said upthread, with Forever stamps those smaller stamps don’t much come into play that often anymore.

The name “Malvo” is very unusual.

Remember the kid who was part of the DC Sniper team? His name was Malvo and they killed and injured twenty some people during their spree.

It’s a very unusual name to choose for one of the main chars in this show.

Some observations:

The washing machine/first wife metaphor in the opening scenes (“I see why you’re trading HER in, she’s a real lemon. Recalled, I think”).

Beethoven’s Ode to Joy (on oil drums) as he’s clearing the house of his former wifes tat

Interesting that Malvo gives deaf guy the means to escape – we surely have to see deaf guy again …

Chief on Tahir: “Don’t question the universe. Sometimes things just work out” – significant, don’t yet know why.

Bedtime scene: “We’re doing good. We have everything we need” – Maggie is talking herself into dropping the case against Lester

That wasn’t a hooker. She and her friends were dressed for a convention. Yes, I know.

Even then, this is fiction. They have no obligation to recognize the existence of forever stamps at the relevant date or at all.

You’re correct. My post wasn’t very well thought out. In the Fargo universe, The King found that bag somewhere between a few hours or a couple weeks after it was left in the events of the movie. Someone new could find it not long after it was left the second time and we can follow their tragedy next.

Is there going to be a second season? Right now it looks like there are too many loose ends to tie up in two episodes.

I thought of a way that Tahir might figure into the denouement; it sounds like he spent a lot of time in Stavros’ market. So perhaps he saw Chumph or Malvo there and will be able to tie those events to the rest of the story.

A second season, maybe, but without Freeman: Fargo: 'S2 possibility being discussed'

The only significance I can see is like if I said in post #53 above, if Chief Bill just saw some random black kid in the supermarket and walked up to him and said something like, “Hey! You wouldn’t just happen to be Tahir the African kid my wife and I have been waiting for 3 months to come and stay in our home. Are you?”

If the doofus chief just gave away the whole story to this kid and the kid thought for a sec and then answered, “Ummm … yeah! sure! I’m that Fahir kid. That’s me.”

Then the chief would figure that everything just worked out and there was no need to question the universe. No need to question because he gave the whole thing away.

Sounds pretty plausible. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were right about this.

Thanks Sherrerd. But, it’s very unlikely.

However, if it turns out to be true, it would be great if that led to the downfall of the fool and his replacement with another chief who would listen to Molly. If that happens, I would have a big LOL.

RE Tahir: It came to me – finally – just after writing that.

Fwiw, if I were writing this around about now would be just about the last moment I’d feel comfortable introducing the next person to find the million dollars …

As the dramatist is well aware, it’s about symmetery, and shapes, and keeping the Fargo flame alive. He’s just got to put Tahir within 50m or so of that ice scrapper.

Of course, as it stands, the person most likely to find it would be someone who uses country roads a lot like, say, a postman. But I suspect it’s Tahir.

‘50m’ meaning metres, not miles

Is there any clue as to how for exactly that cache of money is outside Bemidji? Or is it within the town?

It was probably closer to Brainerd. The King and his wife were traveling [from somewhere to there new home] when they found it.

I started rewatching this season. Usually, when watching an episode for the 2nd time, I see some things I didn’t see the first time.

When watching the first episode, about 29 minutes in, in case some of you might not remember, Rundle Realty is shown as being in Reno Nevada. The bos there (presumably) is sitting in a back office with about 20 telephones and that is where Malvo calls in to get his marching orders.

I think some people seem to think that Rundle Realty is the place where Malvo went on his killing rampage. But I just wanted to make it clear that is a different place.

Oh okay, Nevada makes more sense than Texas. Good spot.

Very true! But, since my only gripe with this show is that there are only ten episodes, one of the few ways for us to have more fun with it is to spend time talking and speculating about it.

The King lives in Duluth, so it may be nearer to there.

When he found the money he was driving into the general area as an immigrant looking to start a new life. That’s all we know from this end.

I can’t recall the lead-in to hwo/where it was buried in the original film.
