Different kinds of sausages. Farmer John’s are breakfast sausages. I’m not sure if other countries have an equivalent. American breakfast sausage, whether links or patties, have a certain flavour profile that is different from hot dogs, bratwurst, hot links, etc. In England, breakfast came with a banger; a different thing. I think the closest thing to an American breakfast sausage I’ve had is Nürnbergerwurst. It’s about the same size as our links, and the ones I had were ‘breakfasty’-tasting. Not quite, but similar.
If that’s the only ad slogan that’s ever set you wondering, you’re in a very small minority. ![]()
Never watch it being made. You know that. Oh, wait, that’s Congress…
After you slice the frozen package of JD, you fry them. Then they are not hockey pucks. They are delicious. I have never eaten them raw and frozen like a hockey puck. But you may be on to something.
I may be missing a whoosh, but I agree that slices from a JD tube are too small and thick for my taste - when I want patty sausage, it needs to be bigger (maybe 3-4 inches), fairly thin, and irregularly shaped with tapered edges. A solid little cylinder of the same stuff just doesn’t cook or chew the same.
Why do I always think Farmer Vincent in this kind of thread.
I think Farmer John Sausages is a great name for a children’s character. Maybe he could be one of The Wiggles.
I have to ask
Do you think Earl Cambell hot links are European? ;)![]()
For a very short time, we could buy Farmer John hams, sausages, and bacon at the Albertson’s here. No more though.
My sister brought out a Farmer John ham in her carry-on luggage once, before 9/11. Good times! I think I will have to visit a supermarket when we make our California trip next summer. I have access to a freezer at our hotel.
Of course not. I said that hot dogs and hot links are different kinds of sausages from American breakfast sausage(s). Then, for the benefit of Dopers who are unfamiliar with American breakfast sausage(s), I mentioned that ours have a different mix of spices I haven’t tasted in their sausages (except, kind of, one).
In any case, you can have hot links or hot dogs with your breakfast, but they are not ‘breakfast sausages’.
