Fartin' and burpin' in the MMP! Welcome to the Shortest Month in the MMP!

Someone fire up the air freshener, it’s a new MMP!

Between living alone for the first time in a long while, and the general isolation of lockdown/quarantine, and specifically the cover that masks provide … I’ve utterly lost my manners.

Bits of kale in my teeth? Who cares! I’m wearing a mask - you can’t see. Did I just belch a bit, or maybe just mutter a curse at you under my breath? You’ll never know! I’m wearing a mask - you can’t hear.

Thread title inspired by having trumpeted myself awake in the wee hours.

I’d like to state for the record that I do use a coaster if the beverage and drinking vessel call for it. (I dislike super-cold drinks & use insulated cups that don’t get condensation on them anyway.)

How veddy, veddy gauche!!! :open_mouth:

OK, I’ll admit to this, tho it’s more because our former housemates now have their own house, so it’s just the 2 of us again:

I’ve been known to start unbuttoning/unzipping my jeans on my way to the, er, powder room when nature calls. Why wait till the last minute?? To be clear, this is just in the house. Should I need to avail myself of the facilities elsewhere, I wait till I’m behind a closed door.

As for editorializing behind a mask - I’m all for it! What better way to vent one’s rage without risking a punch in the face!

Plans for today:

  • laundry
  • making valences (finally)
  • gathering all documents for our tax accountant
  • treading the mill
  • pushing around the vacuum cleaner
  • probably other stuff as it arises

I found a recipe for soft pretzel bites from bread machine dough - I might have a go at that, too. Or save that till tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Happy Moanday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 44 Amurrkin out and cloudy as well as windy with a predicted high of 45 cloudy and windy for the day. So, the weather is the same all day! House cleaner comes today at ten. YAY! I gotta admit, I am so happy to have outsourced this chore. So the biggest task of the day is to stay outta her way. Sup shall be my version of Philly cheesesteaks from yestiddy’s leftover pot roast with the addition of onions and peppers, and oven fries. I also need to get with the pharmacy about some meds that are due for a refill.

Since my ultimate goal in shoppin’ is to get in and out as quickly as possible, I’m no different wearin’ a mask that I was not wearin’ one. Just let me get my stuff and get outta there!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I suppose I should make myself presentable as it would be rude to be unshaved and slovenly in the presence of cleanin’ lady.

Happy Moanday and First of the Month Y’al!

It looks like we have a choice of MMPs, but I shall pick this one, because I am childish, so ner.

I actually got to do something on the system today- after checking with multiple other people that it was permitted, of course.

I was all bothered about the fact that I’ve been there 2 weeks and it’s the first thing even masquerading as useful that I’ve done, until I was in a training call today with someone else who appeared to be even less familiar with the system (like, needed prompting to click on the right boxes), who’s been there since mid November. I guess it’s tricky enough to make sure new starters are paying attention when they’re in the office, never mind when they’re working from home…

I get to take an extra day off this week, or do short hours- I’m not very excited about this, because I have literally nothing to do, as we’re still in lockdown.

I can sit in my room with nothing to do, rather than with something to do. Woo.

I suppose it does mean I can get out more in daylight, if the weather’s acceptable.

Morning all. Presumably someone more responsible than I has asked the mods to merge the new threads, but I will not wait…

Need to get dressed here shortly, have to mail the tax forms, then fill the gas tank, then do the Great Monthly Shopping, then pickup the Moanday sammich at Jersey Mike’s…that’ll do for a morning. 35F heading for a balmy 40F, so the heavier jacket will be employed. Also got three pairs of ‘casual slip-on tennis shoes’ via Amazon yesterday, so will start breaking them in.

Being a life-long bachelor, I am not particular about dressage (right now I am in a sweatshirt and pajamas) and have been known to go clothing optional during the summer. I do try to watch my manners when out among the vast public, but at home…

Nut, enjoy working for a living again.

swampy, I really do need to look into housecleaning services; if nothing else, someone to mop the floors since I apparently am allergic to that particular chore.

All y’all take care this fine Moanday.

Tonka is 17 years old. He’s been losing weight for a while, and he doesn’t groom anymore. (And he doesn’t like us to groom him.) Last night I noticed his right eye is reflecting red. Mrs. L.A. looked at him with her otoscope and said it looks like he has a hemorrhage in his right eye and cataracts in his left eye. Mrs. L.A. will call the vet as soon as she’s open.

Home from sorting. It’s cold, wet, and nasty out. Time for oatmeal and a nap.

Good luck on the job, Nut.

Winter storm warning here. Calling for 6-12 inches of snow, so I’ll not be bothering with the drive to the shop. Waiting on new orders anyway, nothing to build.

Mornin’ everyone.

Morning, mumpers! It’s that time again, right? We are finally at the end of January and looking forward to the shortest month of the year. The weather app says “The weather is acting like a clueless fucking numpty” and promises me 3C/37F up to 4C/40F and mostly cloudy. So that’s not a glimmer of sun out there, obviously.

At least Jan’s over and we’re into a new month. What are you looking forward to in Feb?

Two MMPs! Is it a sign of the apocalypse? Whatever, at least I can say FIRST in this one! It’s good to be juvenile!

Dueling MMPs! (Cue the banjos.)

Moderator Note

If two MMPs are a sign of the apocalypse then the world would be gone several times over.

The two MMPs have been merged. I put both of the original MMP titles in the merged thread. Discourse is going to do whatever it will with post orders, so expect the usual confusion.

Where is “here”?

Our threatened 3-5" wound up being maybe 2" plus rain. It’s still around freezing, but not bad enough to stop me from a grocery run in a bit. After lunch - I don’t dare shop while hungry!!

I’ve tread the mill for an hour and I discovered that the treadmill itself is inaccurate for time/speed. Not hugely - just over 1% slower than it should be. I made a little chart for myself to know how fast I’m walking/where to set the device. I doubt that the difference is really significant, but my engineering mind wants precision, dammit! So I’ll use my phone as the timer.

I started some laundry as I was walking. Next chore is hemming the valences. Guess I should get on that now.

Why is it that I enjoy toast so much more when it’s cut up into four triangles? For some reason it makes me feel fancier. I am definitely easy to amuse and impress.

I made the mistake of watching The Social Dilemma on Netflix last night. Now I’m second-guessing everything I’m seeing online. I don’t disagree with the ideas espoused in the show, but damn if that wasn’t depressing. I wish they’d spent more time on solutions.

Anywho, coffee has been had, fancy toast eaten and a day of work has ensued. My stomach is making noise like it’s trying to reassure me that it’s awake. It’s somewhat distracting. Hopefully no one hears it on the phone. Can’t wait until this afternoon - today’s the day overlymom gets her jab. It’s ALSO the last full week of radiation. Got my fingers crossed it goes as well as possible.

Finger Lakes region of NY. It is snowing, but it’ll need to pick up the pace if it’s going to get to 6".

I’m fine with that.

I once cut my toast into a Möbius strip. I finally gave up after almost an hour of eating.

{{{Tonka}}}

Laved, shaved and ready for classes to start. This week actually has plans! Nothing drastic, but I am getting out of the house a bit. They’ve reopened outdoor dining in SoCal, so a teaching buddy and I will be able to meet for lunch on Friday for the first time since early November. Today I have 3 classes to teach, bird feeders to refill, rugs to be vacuumed and later on beer to be onloaded with one of my camping buddies.

Have a safe week, everyone!

I don’t normally post in the MMP, but wanted to share this bit of self depreciation.

I’m working on my taxes now. I like to get them done before mid-February. I do not understand how people can wait until April, but to each their own. Anyway, I’m doing the taxes and the program says we owe $18,000. We usually owe some until I’ve calculated child care credits. Unfortunately, we only have eight weeks of before school care payments this year, which have all been covered by my FSA. (My FSA also had a lot of reserve for summer camp, which didn’t happen, so kiss several hundred good bye.)

I closed my laptop Friday night, trying to figure out how we will come up with $18,000. We have college tuition coming up this fall, and we just put down the deposit on an RV for spring break.

Sunday night, I decide to finish up. I’d been quietly freaking out all weekend. I tell myself that I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and tell Mrs Magill that we’re going to need to come up with eighteen grand by April. Before I do, I decide to double check the W-2s. Some one, who shall remain nameless, decided to completely enter the wrong amount for federal tax withheld.

I feel much better.

Mrs. L.A. called the vet’s office and spoke to the receptionist. She conferred with the vet. She said the vet said that a detached retina could cause the hemorrhage, but as long as his eye isn’t oozing we don’t need to worry. Mrs. L.A. told the receptionist (before she conferred with the vet) that Tonka is basically on hospice care. He’s eating and urinating and defecating and does not appear to be in any distress.

I channeled my inner MOOooooommm this morning:

  • both litter boxes scooped
  • big bin retrieved from the curb
  • entire sinkful of dishes washed
  • bath mat shaken out
  • eaten two soft boiled eggs, and hard boiled a third as a portable lunch item
  • also ate chips and guacamole, and a brownie, because why not?
  • refilled umpteen critter water bottles

It’s a relatively balmy 29 F and the cats have cabin fever, so they had plenty of outdoor time, too, complete with catnip shaken out onto the driveway for them to roll around on and eat.

Oh, and they split a can of gooshy-food, so don’t let either of them say they didn’t have a nice morning.

Alright, time to wash up and go irk another shift.
