Today is the Federal holiday commemorating an Italian dude who set out for one place, ended up in another, and did it all on someone else’s money. Let’s celebrate!
For me, that means mowing the grass, getting my hair cut, and boiling a chicken carcass after I de-meat it. Good times, good times!
Happy Columbus Day, America, and Happy Moanday, world!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 58 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 83 and sunny. Nice for a day off irk. OYKW left for irk a few minutes ago, poor thing. He’s doin’ some home visit monitorin’ this mornin’ and afternoon. I on the other hand am a bear of leisure today. Well, not exactly leisure. I have some errands and stuff to take care of this mornin’. Plus I will make dindin. That way I can say I was not a complete sloth.
Midget and all our other Canadian friends and Mumpers have a Happy Thanksgiving!
OK, that’s all I got for now. I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy is demandin’ sustenance. Then, I must purtify so as I can be seen by my adorin’ public.
Good Morning Sunshines! Almost off my night shift, but it’ll be a long time before I hit the sack. Thankfully it’s my Friday, so I don’t have to work for another few days. Going to do some heavy lifting helping a relative move, then snuggle in for some videogames with my man. It’s supposed to be a toasty 62F where I’m at, and gasp no rain today! We’ll see about that one.
I just ranted about this in the mini-rants thread, but I just now found out that Irish Storyteller and Seasonal got engaged because I happened to click on his FB page to see if he’s out of town since he wasn’t around yesterday and never replied to my text.
Friends: who needs 'em?
Yeah, my feelings are a little bit hurt right now.
The heat has been running so I assume it’s chilly outside.
A few things on the agenda for today. Go get the oil change I never got around to. I still have 20% oil life left but it’s been over a year since the last change. According to On* I average 2 miles a day of driving. The trip to the armpit bumped it up to 3.
We need to go get groceries today too.
One day I have to run Sah-son to the college. He needs to get his college ID, and he has to take a test at the testing center this week. I don’t know of they are open today. I am assuming the car place is, so I’d better call them first too.
I have to irk today. We don’t get holidays, but I can take off if I want. Just don’t get paid.
I am now suitably attired and groomed to be out and about the general public. So, I guess since I bothered, I should go ahead and commence errandin’. Chikin is also on to roast in the slow cooker. Go Me!
Slept in all the way to 0645…I really need to learn how to sleep in. Lawn mowing is on the schedule for today, along with a short shopping trip to buy slippers and maybe a shirt or three.
Otherwise I will continue my life-long goal of mastering the art of doing nothing.
Just finished mowing, and it was a messy chore. The grass was really dewy, so I had to stop several times to clear the chute - I was pretty filthy when I got done. But the mower and the whacker are put away, I’m showered and dressed, and I ate a 'nanner!
I’m about to go get my hair cut. Then I think I’ll have lunch out. Then, guess I need to come home and deal with the chicken carcass. Good times!
Well, I survived my trip to Arkansas and arrived home on Friday. My dogs have been sticking to my side since my arrival home and are obviously happy that all is right in their world.
I did go out one time to a lovely restaurant on the Arkansas River, but stayed on the installation the rest of the time. The training did provide some beneficial and useful information, but the rooms were as horrible as I remembered them from the last time. The DFAC food was atrocious and overpriced. The installation itself is actually kind of pretty and the staff were unfailingly kind and polite.
I was happy to get home where the weather was blessedly cool, as compared to Arkansas. Saturday was very stormy; wind and rain and many thousands suffered power outages. Thankfully, I was not among them.
I’ve spent the weekend doing laundry and doing some chores. I may, or may not crack open the work laptop and do some catch up work. I haven’t decided. Technically, I shouldn’t because it’s a holiday. On the other hand, I have a shit ton of stuff to catch up on and I’d feel a little less pressure at work if I did so. We’ll see.
I should go grocery shopping today, but it’s not a total emergency.
I no longer have a mutant mullet, so yay! And I decided to have lunch at the not-too-terrible Chinese place, so there’s that. I pulled out some poke chops to thaw for supper. Plus I picked up my check at the little store - $10! Pretty much covered lunch and my haircut, not counting tips.
A beautiful autumn day here, sunny with the temperature at 23º. Just kicking back and relaxing until I can rouse myself to go out and start packing stuff into the garden shed for the winter.
We had our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. My daughter’s been asking me to make her some of my spaghetti sauce and I offered to do a big pot of it this weekend and make lasagna as well. She went home happily after dinner with a jar of sauce and a container of leftover lasagna.
